Translating for IEP meetings in TISD
Update provided to principals. If you are a Spanish Speaker, please feel free to join our upcoming zoom trainings. Dates will be announce soon.
As we gear up for the new year, we wanted to share some important updates regarding our ongoing efforts to enhance our translation processes and further elevate the quality of our work.
We would like to introduce a comprehensive Translation Guide designed to provide ARD translators with ARD-specific vocabulary. This guide aims to streamline our translation workflows, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment within our district. We are including the guide now so that you can take a look and give us feedback.
In addition to the Translation Guide, the Special Services and Multilingual Departments will host two specialized training sessions in January to further equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to translate at an ARD. This session will cover key aspects of the translation process, address common challenges, and offer practical tips to optimize your efficiency. Our goal is to foster a collaborative and informed environment, empowering each of you to contribute to our collective success.
We encourage your active participation in this training as it will be a valuable opportunity to engage with the new material, ask questions, and share insights with your peers. Your commitment to ongoing improvement is crucial, and we believe this training will contribute significantly to our collective growth.
We value your dedication to maintaining the high standards we set for ourselves, and we are confident that these resources will enhance the quality of our work.
If you have any preliminary questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.
Thanks.
Keri & Brenda

But what if parents don't respond to invitations to attend and don't show up the day of the meeting? How many times do teams have to try to convince parents to attend? How many times do they have to reschedule the meeting?
"Everybody asks that," said Jose Martín, an attorney at Richards, Lindsay, and Martín LLP in Austin, Texas. "You've got to ensure that parents have an opportunity to participate. But there's nothing in the regulations that says you've got to try [a certain number of] times."
IEP teams should...
