Even Kids Can Be Powerful Agents for Change!
Twin Oaks Families:
It was a pleasure connecting with many of you during Family Conferences last week. I'm always looking for new ways to support Twin Oaks' students. My appointments with parents and guardians renewed my commitment to classroom instruction, small group interventions and individual counseling for kids.
In a recent survey of my counseling "tickets" since the start of the school year, I found my average has increased from about 15 requests per week to approximately 25 per week! It could be that students are feeling more stress and pressure about school, or simply that more people know about my availability and are taking advantage of the opportunity to meet with the School Counselor one-on-one. Whatever the case, I'm feeling very needed these days.
I hope to get a few small groups off the ground in the coming weeks, allowing me to serve larger groups of students who are dealing with similar issues. Currently, I'm considering the following topics: Overcoming Anxiety and Worry, Positive Self-Esteem, Emotional Regulation Skills, Navigating Friendships.
In School This Week: Classroom lessons this week will continue to focus on the theme of Kindness and Service. I will share books and videos that support the concepts, and encourage students to think about how they might expand their thinking and take action in their school, at home, in their neighborhood and community. I want Twin Oaks students to know that even kids can be powerful agents for change!
