Virtual SCPD

VirtualSC PD offers SCDE approved Read to Succeed courses supporting the Read to Succeed Act.

All Read to Succeed renewal courses are offered for $85.00 and are worth 60 renewal credits. Cohorts are offered by request for all Read to Succeed courses.

Helping Students Focus: Professional Development Opportunities (PD FOR ALL)

The Office of Student Intervention Services will host a series of professional development opportunities specifically designed to help educators and other school staff improve student outcomes related to behavior and academic performance. Facilitated by Focused Minds Education Group, these interactive, hands-on opportunities will provide participants with asset-based, trauma-informed, and evidence-based recommendations for improving student outcomes. An emphasis will be placed on specific strategies for students with disabilities and those who have been exposed to trauma.

National Board Certification

National Board Certification Support National Board Certification was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. Shelly Flud is a teacher at J.W. Moore Middle who obtained her National Board Certification in 2007 and achieved National Board Recertification in 2016. She is available with whatever assistance that you need.

Tuition Reimbursement 2022-2023 | Get Paid To Go To School

The current incentive for the 2022-2023 school year entitles all full-time employees tuition reimbursement up to $2,000 per year, per employee for courses taken during the period of July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. Employees who have been employed in Florence 1 Schools for at least three (3) years are eligible to receive up to $2,000. Employees who have been employed in Florence 1 Schools less than three (3) years are eligible to receive up to $1,000. To be eligible for tuition reimbursement upon the acquisition of additional academic credits or completion of a degree program, the following steps must be followed.

Prior to Taking the Course:

  1. Courses must be approved by the Superintendent of Schools PRIOR to enrolling/registering in the course.
  2. The tuition assistance shall be provided only for a course or degree related to the employee’s current or future job responsibilities.
  3. The institution shall be a duly authorized institution of higher education.
  4. Complete a Course Approval Form. One copy is attached for your reference.
  5. All courses must be graduate level courses for certified personnel.
  6. If you change courses you MUST reapply. Only courses outlined on your approval form will be honored.

Only send a complete package to Kim Hoffman which includes:

  1. Approval form clearly outlines the course(s) which you plan to enroll
  2. The dates of the course(s)
  3. The cost of the course(s)
  4. Course descriptions from the College/University website or course catalog for each course listed below.


All conferences require preapproval from the Superintendent's Office. Applicants and participants are responsible for all registration and housing fees unless offered by district administration. Applicants MUST submit 2022-2023 Travel/Conference Approval Form prior to registering for the conference. Please note there are additional requirements and documentation for conference participants. FREE ETV Technology Training - the staff at ETV trains over 3,000 SC teachers at their locations every school year. They will work with teachers during their planning periods, after school or on in-service days.
