Message from Ms. Perkins
Thank you to all of the families who came out to support our 1st grade students and Simonton ES Chorus and Instrumental group. Our students got us all in the holiday spirit with great songs and dances. We appreciate Mrs. Kate George, our music teacher, for supporting our students.
Next week our PTA will host a Winter Celebration dance. The dance will begin at 2:45 pm and the cost of $6.00. Monday is the last day to send payment and the permission slip. All students will need to be picked up by 4:45 pm.

SES Handbook Highlight ~ Attendance
Learning hours are from 8:15 to 2:45 daily. Children arriving after 8:15 are considered tardy. Frequent tardiness and early checkouts negatively impact students’ academic performance. Please try to schedule any appointments after school hours. State law requires that students attend school 180 days per year. Since most subjects are taught in sequence, regular attendance is essential to a student’s success in school.
Students are excused for the following absences:
1) personal illness
2) a death or serious illness in the immediate family;
3) religious holidays;
4) court orders and
5) Conditions which render school attendance impossible or hazardous to health and safety.
For each absentee, a written excuse explaining the absence must be brought to school on the first day following the absence. By law, parents will be notified if their child misses more than 5 days of school. The state of Georgia considers 10 absences or tardies to be excessive. Parents of children with excessive absences or tardies can be reported to local and state agencies, which will result in meeting with the Student Attendance Review Committee (SARC).

SES Handbook Highlights ~ Arrival/Dismissal of Students
Students are expected to be at school on time and not leave unless they have permission. Staff members are involved in planning, conferencing, and staff meetings prior to 8:15. Car riders should NOT arrive before this time. At 7:45 they should be dropped off in the car-rider line on the right-hand side of the school, not in the front office. This is for their safety. There is no one on duty to supervise students prior to this time. Students arriving after 8:15 should be escorted to the office by a parent for check-in. School dismissal is at 2:45. Car riders must be picked up before 3:00. After this time, car riders will be taken to the front office for parent contact. Excessive incidents of late car rider pick up will result in a parent conference with school administrators.
You are invited...
All students and their families are invited to attend the celebration. The theme will be "The time is always right to do what is right". Lauren Seroyer is this year's Parade Grand Marshal! Lauren is a graduate of Peachtree Ridge High School class of 2018.
The celebration includes a parade, health fair, performances by students, and vendors. The 2020 celebration will also highlight artwork by Gwinnett County students. We encourage students of all ages to submit their artwork. All submitted work must be created entirely by the student artist and received no later than Thursday, January 16, 2020. Artists, whose artwork is selected to represent their schools, will receive a certificate.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade kick off will be held on Langley Drive in front of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center located at 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2020. The parade concludes at Moore Middle School, which is located at 1221 Lawrenceville Highway. There will be a health fair, performances by students and vendors at Moore Middle School. Artwork submitted will be displayed at Moore MS during this celebration on Monday, January 20, 2020. The activities will take place until 3:00 p.m.
