Introduction

Come to the Philippines! We have some of the nicest water out there, and the coolest geography. The Philippines is a group of islands, also called an archipelago. The Philippines is located in "Southeast Asia" this archipelago has 7,107 islands.

Geography/Climate

It is located in the Southeastern Asia archipelago between the Philippine Sea and the South China Sea. Coordinates are 13 00 N, 122 00 E. The Philippines is slightly larger than Arizona. The climate is tropical has northeast monsoon (November to April). It's natural resources are timber, petroleum, nickel, cobalt, silver, gold, salt, copper.

People & Culture

The Philippines has many ethnic groups: Tagalog 28.1%, Cebuano 13.1%, Ilocano 9%, Bisaya/Binisaya 7.6%, Hiligaynon Ilonggo 7.5%, Bikol 6%, Waray 3.4%, other 25.3% (2000 census) Filipino (official; based on Tagalog) and English (official); The Philippines has eight Languages - Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon or Ilonggo, Bicol, Waray, Pampango, and Pangasinan

Government & Citizenship

The Philippines is a republic. It's Independence day is 12 June 1898 (independence from Spain), and 4 July 1946 (from the US). Constitution was adopted on 2 February 1987, effective 11 February 1987. The National symbol is the Philippine eagle. The capital of the Philippines is Manila.

Economy

The Philippines has a mixed economy. The Agriculture products are: sugarcane, coconuts, rice, corn, bananas, cassavas, pineapples, mangoes; pork, eggs, beef; fish. Some of the many industries are electronics, footwear, chemicals, wood products, food processing, petroleum refining, fishing.
