The Tiger Parent Newsletter
Week of November 27 - December 1
Happy Weekend, Tiger Families!
I hope you all have had a wonderful week spending time with your loved ones. Both of my sisters and their children along with both of my daughters all found our way to Wimberley where my mom and dad live. We don’t get to see each other during the year as much as we’d like to so being in the same place for a few days was truly a blessing for me.
Although it was a little sad saying goodbye to my family this weekend, I have joy in my heart to see our school family Monday! We have a busy and exciting few weeks ahead... finishing our first semester of learning and preparing for our festive holiday program! It’s a wonderful time to be a Tiger!
Proud to be your principal,
Ms. Ingram

Timberline Life
From our Counselors!
Mrs. Salazar and Mrs. Portillo, our TES counselors along with The Parenting Center, will present “Making Rules and Enforcing Them”. This is a class for parents to get ideas for establishing clear expectations with their children and how to keep those expectations. The fee for this course has been waived for parents that attend this Tuesday, November 28th at 6:30 in the Timberline Library/Learning Commons.
Students in GCISD are blessed with devices that allow them to use technology to personalize their learning and engage in all kinds of diverse educational experiences. Wow, what an awesome opportunity…and completely free to them! We want to encourage practices that keep our devices damage-free. Click here for a short video starring TES students modeling responsible care of iPads and Chromebooks.
Our GCISD Board of Trustees approved the 2018-2019 Instructional Calendars. For your convenience, an article with an explanatory video has been posted to the GCISD website.
Are You Interested in Children’s Health?
The School Health Advisory Committee is the perfect place for parents to make contributions, and decisions on health initiatives that influence their children. Come find out how you can join SHAC! Meet and Greet on December 8 in the Alamo at the Admin Building, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.
School Messenger Update
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is making some changes to the School Messenger automated calling system. Currently, when GCISD sends a phone message, it uses the main district line. Moving forward, calls will come from the following number: 866-264-0350. By using this toll free number, call recipients will be able to place a call back to this number to hear any missed calls, which is an added benefit to all families. Please save this number in your contacts as a reminder that these calls are coming from GCISD.
Angst – a discussion about child anxiety
In the Colleyville Heritage High School auditorium on Wednesday, November 29, 6:30 p.m., all parents and students (ages ten years and older) are invited to join in a viewing of this documentary. Angst is a 56-minute film that explores anxiety, its causes, effects and what we can do about it. The goal is to have a global conversation and raise awareness around anxiety. Angst features candid interviews with kids and young adults who suffer, or have suffered, from anxiety and what they’ve learned about it. The film includes discussions with mental health experts about the causes of anxiety and its sociological effects, as well as help, resources and tools. For additional information, visit the Angst website.
First LEGO League Volunteers Needed!!
On December 16, GCISD will host a First Lego League Regional Qualifier at HMS. We have 13 GCISD team competing from GMS, CTMS, and Cannon. There are a total of 36 teams in the competition. Click to learn more about First Lego League.
Students compete by maneuvering their robot on a field to complete increasingly complex challenges. Additionally, students present to panels of judges regarding teamwork, robot construction, and a problem-solving project.
In order for this event to be successful, we need many judges, referees, and volunteers. Judges hear presentations from each group and score those according to a rubric with a panel of judges. Referees watch field competitions in the gym on the competition table and score each maneuver as successful or unsuccessful. Each table is scored by a team of referees.
- Click here to judge or referee (training on December 1).
- Click here to volunteer for 2-hour shift(s).
Judges and referees will attend a training on December 1st at 4 p.m. at Cannon Elementary.. The event will begin at 8 am and judging is generally finished around 2 or 3 p.m. Please consider volunteering as a judge or referee. Ask your spouse, significant other, neighbor or friend to join you.
Shortly after you register as a judge or referee you will receive an email to complete a background check along with details regarding the training event on December 1. Thanks for helping to make this event great.
Ride Change, Doctor's Appointments and Emergency Care for Late Pickups
The school will follow the direction you provided about how your child gets home each day. If there is a change to this, you must notify the office in one of the following ways:
Send a written note with your child with details for how he or she will get home that day.
Email maria.reyes@gcisd.net with details for how you child will be picked up prior to 2:00 p.m.
Call the office 817-251-5770 prior to 2:00 p.m.
Changes cannot be made by text messages or calls to teachers. Teachers are working with your children during the school day and we can’t ensure that information will get to the office.
If your child has a doctor's appointment that requires leaving school early:
- Please notify the office the day before the appointment so the office has time to prepare necessary checkout for you.
- Pick up your child prior to 2:30 for early release. Because of the size of our school, we are not able to process early pickups after this time. This is a shared policy across GCISD elementary campuses.
- Send a doctor's note in with your child the following day so that we are able to excuse the partial absence.
If you have an emergency and are not able to pick up your child(ren) by 3:20:
- Your child(ren) will be taken to KidzU for supervision at which time an emergency care fee is charged.
- KidzU is located at the Timberline Annex, across from the LAC.
- Unless there are unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather, our car rider dismissal line is cleared by 3:20.
- If possible, please call the office to alert us of the emergency.
