Saturday School

Please be aware there is no breakfast or lunch served on Saturday. Please be sure to send your child with a snack. Students will have computer and book buddies. I know that a lot of students may have other obligations, but they are still responsible for making up work that is missed just like if they missed a weekday. We will have a modified schedule but will work on reading, writing, math and science on Saturday. The instructional day starts at 9:20 and ends at 12:50.

O'Holly Night

Please send in your donations for our basket. If you are new to our school, you are in for a treat. Please ask me about O'Holly Night when we have our conferences.

A sign-up genius will be in a separate e-mail today. Please find a time that works for you. I will edit times and dates as we get closer to trackout to offer more times.

Time for a Talk

There has been conversations about "going out" with each other lately. Please have a conversation with your child about your expectations of them having a boyfriend or girlfriend at this time. Students are expected to focus on academics in the classroom and if this or any other matter is preventing them from focusing, please expect to hear from me.

This Week

Reading: Students will continue working on Flush independently this week. I hope to be finished before trackout. In whole group lessons, we continue to identifying main idea and key details in non-fiction text as well as summarizing. Word Works test have been so hard to squeeze in, I've decided to just use classwork to assess students understanding of the words.

Writing: Students will complete this paper and then be able to select a topic of their choice to begin to research. Please help your child in finding resources for their topics.

Math: Students will continue working on our geometry unit. We will begin and complete our unit on coordinate grids. Students will have an assessment on Friday. If your child is not going to be here, please make sure that they complete it when they return. It offers them a 4 opportunity in our geometry unit.

Science: We will continue to explore balanced and unbalanced forces as well as Newton's Laws of Motion. Students will use a standard vehicle to test how forces pull and how the vehicle responds to weighted load.

Vocabulary for the Week:

ELA (English Language Arts)

Main Idea

  • coordinate plane
  • x-axis
  • y-axis

Holly Springs Elementary is a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports) school, which means that we focus on introducing, modeling and reinforcing positive social behavior. Our school-wide positive behavior system is SPOTS.

Safety First

Practice Politeness

Own your actions

Think about what is right

Success will follow

When a class shows their SPOTS in the school-wide environment they earn a Cheetah Spot. Each class sets their own goal and when that goal is reached, the students earn a special reward.

Next week, we will introduce the ticket system. When a staff member catches individual students showing their SPOTS, that student will earn a ticket. The students are responsible for writing their name on the ticket and putting it in the ticket bin located in the classroom. On Friday, a ticket will be chosen for each grade level and the lucky students will win a free happy meal! The names will be announced on the Monday morning announcements! You can help at home by using SPOTS language and reinforcing positive behavior!
