In The Classroom
This week, we continued the cookie fun. We started the week by reading a story titled, The Cow Loves Cookies by Karma Wilson. After reading the story, I introduced a puppet cow named Cookie who loves to eat cookies just like in the story. Each day, we fed Cookie the Cow cookies with different pictures on them. Everyone had to make sure they were listening to the first sound of the picture on the cookie because Cookie the Cow only likes things with the initial sound of C. When Cookie the Cow was given cookies with a different starting sound, she would throw them in the yuck bucket. As each cookie was introduced, the children had to give a thumbs up if they thought Cookie the Cow would like the treat or a thumbs down if they thought she would not like the treat. The children loved playing with Cookie and had the opportunity to feed her themselves during group on Thursday.
During story time, we read the book titled, The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins. In this story, there is a plate of chocolate chip cookies for two children to eat. Everytime the doorbell rings, there is a friend who drops by and the cookies must be shared between everyone. The children loved the repetitive storyline and helped me read the story throughout the week. On the last day of reading the story, Miss Jodi brought in real chocolate chip cookies to share with the children! Everyone was very excited and enjoyed eating their own cookie. After reading the story, we listened to “Hip Hop Body Rock” by Mr. Eric.
