Message from the Principal
We hope you enjoyed your long weekend together! Last week we celebrated our robotics team, the Lakewood Cardio Coders, who competed this past Saturday in a district hosted regional qualifier. We also got to show off our unique styles in our picture day for our yearbook Thursday!
This week we are excited to celebrate and learn more about World Autism Day! Don't forget your blue on Wednesday! We also will we working through the final preparations and planning needs to begin our new full day schedule on April 12th. Let's make this a great week of learning!

April 12th Lakewood will Transition to a Full Day Schedule
As many of you are aware, the CDC has revised guidance for social distancing in schools. In alignment with Dallas ISD values, Lakewood Elementary has committed to respond actively to data and information as it changes. Therefore, we are happy to announce that Lakewood will be safely reopening to a full day schedule beginning April 12th! We are excited to end the year with the opportunity to incorporate specials, lunch and recess into the school day for in-persona and virtual learners. Questions can be sent to the SBDM sub-committee supporting the campus with parent input and feedback. The sub-committee will compile frequently asked questions and share them with the administration to help facilitate timely sharing of information and answers. Please send those to LWEcurriculum2020@gmail.com. We are proud to end this last nine weeks Stallion Strong!

Questions about Summer Plans
Dear Families,
It has come to my attention that several families may have summer vacation plans during the month of June that may impact attendance. We want families to be aware of the district-wide testing schedule for May and June that may be in conflict with early summer plans. Please be mindful that student STAAR and MAP testing will be completed at the end of the year. These achievement test scores are used for magnet school applications as well as TAG placement. Having “no score” could negatively impact a student’s future opportunities. In order to respond to those requests and inquiries, please see below for options and implications of each action.

Family Insight for 21-22 Homeroom Assignments
We are beginning the extensive process of creating our classes for the 21-22 school year! At Lakewood we have very talented and hardworking teachers who embody our mission and vision. Our goal this year is to create balanced classes for all students and teachers. Our system for creating balance is taking the following into consideration: the number of boys and girls, birthdays, academic levels in all subjects, and social emotional needs, as well as any special education/504 needs. Please be aware that we will not be honoring specific teacher requests.
As we create these classes with your Stallions' current teachers, we value any insight you may wish to share to help us in this process. If you have pertinent information about your child necessary for us to be aware of please provide that here. Our current teachers will be using this to help form classes. This information will also be shared with your child’s future teacher so they can begin to prepare to meet the specific needs of your student.
