Curriculum and Assessment Updates

September 2021

Summer Learning, Summer Fun

Students across the district engaged in summer learning which included credit recovery at MVRHS and project-based learning in grades K-8. Teachers used technology and hands on activities to help students access learning. The project-based units were paired with NHEEPs Energy Education Kits for STEM experiences and students presented their learning to the group on the final day.

If you are interested in learning more about renting NHEEP Energy Education kits for your K-12 classes, please email me.

Grade 5 and 6 students at IRS learned about the importance of pollinators, planted a butterfly bush, and created bee houses. In grades 7 and 8, students studied elements of climate change through their look at tiny houses, including a field trip to a local tiny house and the planning of their own energy efficient house.
Students in grades kindergarten through fourth studied the power of wind, the importance of pollinators, as well as light and shadow. For their final projects, they created wind machines, possible sun-shades for the playgrounds at CES and EVS, and a pollinator puppet show.

Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment

Virtual Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment meetings

Grade and subject specific curriculum meetings will begin in October - a schedule of meeting dates and times will be sent out shortly. We will continue to meet virtually.

Be prepared to share a lesson you have taught which has inspired your students in some way - to think deeply about the topic or context, to learn new skills, to explore further.

Book groups:

If you're interested in reading one of these texts as a team, building, or district-wide group, let me know. We can order books and start to set dates for virtual discussions around teaching, learning, and instruction.
