Your favorite Halogen

My History

I was born in 1774 in Uppsala, Sweden. That's right, my dad is Swedish, his name is Carl Wilhem Scheele. Now I live in period 3 , group 17 of the periodic table! I work as a pool cleaner, it's something I really enjoy. My atomic mass is 35.45 and my atomic number is 17, so you always can find me on the table. I am in the Halogen family, and I am very reactive. I am pretty open in regards of which element to bond with, but I would prefer an alkali metal with 1 valence electron. What's mine is yours!

My Chemical And Physical Properties

I am very toxic, corrosive, and a green-yellowish gas at room temperature. I am 2.5 times heavier than air. If you inhale me, you can choke and your throat will become tighter and you will be struggling for air so I wouldn't put me close to your nose. To the right is an accurate picture of me and how many valence electrons I have because that guy named Bohr couldn't get it right so I went to the guy named Lewis!

My Family

My family is the Halogens! We have always been very close so let me introduce you to them. There is Fluorine (F), Me (Chlorine, Cl), Bromine (Br), Iodine (I), Astatine (At), and our weird cousin Ununseptium (Uus).

Being a halogen means a lot, but especially that we are very reactive. My family and I have 7 valence electrons, and we only need one more to become as good as the noble gases.

Halogen literally means "Salt producing". When one of us reacts with a metal, we make many different types of salt. We are also the only group in the periodic table that has elements in gas, liquid, and solid states of matter. We are a big loving family in the Halogen group!

My Perfect Match

I'm single and ready to mingle! I am looking for an alkali metal to bond with. An alkali metal would just...complete me! I have 7 valence electrons and I only need to gain one more to become a noble gas with 8 valence electrons. That is why I want an alkali metal to bond with because they have one valence electron to give me and we both are happy together!
