7 Mindsets-Live to Give

The holidays are crazy times full of shopping, cooking, and family gatherings. It is also a time of giving, joy, and saying thank you for our many blessings. This holiday season the Mashburn family has not only spread joy within their own families, they have spread the holiday cheer to the streets of Atlanta. Due to your gracious hearts we have packed and delivered over 100 backpacks to people in need. Our halls were filled with food, water, shampoo, and warm clothing and on Tuesday night all of the items were packed and sent off. From our hearts to yours we would like to say thank you for spreading joy and instilling a giving heart in your child.

Yearbook Cover Contest

Congratulations to Elle DeHaven in 2NP! She is the winner of the yearbook cover art contest. Elle received the news during one of our live GMM broadcasts this week. Take a look at her ridiculously amazing work!

Clinic News

As we head into the cold/flu season we ask that you remind your Blue bear the good hygiene basics. Please give a refresher on proper hand washing (at least 20secs or happy birthday song twice), not sharing drinks and always covering a cough or sneeze with your elbow/sleeve. In the classroom the teachers are doing the same with fun videos and discussions on how to stay healthy. If you are new to Mashburn or Forsyth County please take a look at our Wellness policy. This can be found on our webpage under school nurse and “when to keep your student home”. This policy is strictly followed to help keep all health, happy and in class learning. Any questions? As always call Nurse Deana.

Kindergarten Superstars

Our kindergarten classes have been teaming up with upper grades students to learn their computer logins. They have worked on logging on to our school network with their unique usernames and passwords, then locating and logging in to the itslearning website. Both the younger and older students enjoyed this collaboration and many of our kindergarteners are now able to log-on independently thanks to their patient helpers.

Volunteer Opportunities

The PTA has many volunteer opportunities coming up during the Winter Semester. If you are interested in helping with any of the following committees, please send an email to

Father-Daughter, Mother-Son, Mashburn 5K, 5th Grade Graduation, Talent Show, Birthday Marquee, and Denim & Diamonds.

Also, you may not be familiar with what each of these committees does, but you may have some talents or skills you would like to share in a volunteer capacity. If you have special skills or talents, such as event planning, sales, photography, customer service, creative design, or if you just have passion for helping our children, we'd love to have you as a volunteer. Contact us today through e-mail, or ask your Room Mom, teacher, or anyone with a blue PTA badge for more information. Together We Are Better!

Social Studies Fair Participants

Last week we had several Mashburn students compete in the social studies fair. All involved did an outstanding job. One team, Camryn Coen and Megan Reynolds, will move on to compete at the Northeast Georgia Regional Social Studies Fair on Saturday, February 14, 2015. Congratulations to all of you for your hard work!

Media Center Project/Volunteers

We have a big project going on in the media center and we need your help to get it rolling. We are attempting to label some of our books in order to help our students to find “Just Right Books”. This is a project that will impact all of our students and we know you all have a heart for all our Bluebears. If you have an hour, or even a few minutes, to spare over the next few months please consider stopping by and labeling a few books for us. Mrs. Sears will be able to show you what to do.

Mrs. Sears also needs more regular volunteers in the media center. Please contact her if you can help.Together We Are Better!

It was a great opportunity for 14 of our team members to get some exposure to the stress of competition.
