The Principal's Corner

Cougar Families,

We have officially received our A school letter grade from the state of Arizona! I am so proud of every person in the building for bringing it every single day and supporting each other. Our students did a remarkable job during testing last school year. We didn't allow excuses, but instead we made expectations to do our best and maintain our A letter grade. The best staff in the world did their jobs, taught our students with engaging lessons, filled learning gaps, and loved their students every single day. The vibe and energy here is truly special.

Our Teach or Treat event was a huge success! Thank you to everyone that donated candy, our PTA. I enjoyed seeing our Cougars dressed in their Halloween costumes. Halloween is always a memorable and fun day here at Canyon Rim.

Veterans Day is Friday, November 11th. There is no school this day in honor of the Veterans who have served our country. Remember to recognize a Veteran for their service. We appreciate ALL of our Veterans!!!

Please take a minute to click on the GPS spotlight for Mr. Raines. Science Camp is a rite of passage for 6th graders and one of our special traditions that students look forward to here at CRE. Mr. Raines is the reason why Science Camp is a truly memorable experience for our students.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am thankful for my family, our students, and the best staff in the entire world.

Have a great break,

Joe Lopat

Principal

Moment of Silence

As you know, in Gilbert Public Schools, many of our schools already observe a moment of silence as part of our school routine, along with citing The Pledge of Allegiance each day. Under a new Arizona statute, schools must provide students with the opportunity to observe one to two minutes of silence each day, and teachers and staff are not permitted to give students any direction on how to use this silent time. The statute reserves that right for parents/guardians and requires us to inform you of this right. Please take a moment to speak with your child about how best to use the daily moment of silence.

Nurse's Corner

CRE is a Latex-free school, as we have students on campus who are extremely allergic to latex. Because latex powder can be transferred through latex and even mylar balloons, we ask that parents keep the birthday celebration balloons at home. Thank you!

PTA News

Hello Canyon Rim Families,

Hope everyone had a fun and safe Fall Break and a Happy Halloween. In October we had lots going on starting with finishing up our Cookie Dough and Butterbraids fundraiser in which we raised almost $13,000! As always, our Teach or Treat event was well attended and fun for the whole family. We had close to 700 kids show up and lots of candy to go around. It was great to see everyone dressed in their costumes and we got lots of great pictures for the yearbook. We are continuing our Kona Ice Days and we will continue the PRE-PAY ONLY so please be on the lookout for the flyer each month for the new code. No cash will be accepted the day of the event.

We are kicking off November early with our Care Package Collection for the Troops event will be the 7th – 11th so please be on the lookout for the flyers that will have details on what the troops need and enjoy while they are missing their families over the holidays. Cookie Dough Pickup pickup/delivery is November 8th from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM. We are not able to keep items after 6:00 PM so please make arrangements for pickup or your orders may be forfeit. Our annual Ultimate Family Fun Night which is a FREE Event will be on November 18th with gates opening at 5:00, Bingo starting at 5:30 PM and the movie starting at 6:00 PM. The Game Truck will be on campus November 29th for everyone who sold 10 items during the fundraiser, students and teachers will be notified soon. Finally on December 2nd will be our Donuts With Your Favorite Guy Event, so make sure you tell all the guys in your life to mark their calendar for that morning from 7:00 AM – 7:45 AM so they can grab a donut with their student(s). Flyers and social media posts about these awesome events are forthcoming, so make sure you have followed our Facebook and Instagram pages and got connected through our Remind app.

We will have some fun volunteer opportunities for events as we move forward so be on the lookout for those. If you are not already a PTA member sign up to get on the list of emails that get sent out for volunteer opportunities.

Our next PTA meeting is on December 1st, and we hope to see you there to find out what is going on and be a part of helping us decide what we will do for our students, staff, and school this year. If you have any questions, comments, concerns or want to find out about upcoming meetings you are always welcome to email us at info@canyonrimpta.org or check out our website at www.canyonrimpta.org.
