Academy of the Arts at Bransom
April 2-6, 2018 (School Days 133-137)
A Note From Your Principal
It's Monday morning, Academy of the Arts Families! Welcome back to a beautiful but chilly spring day in Burleson. I hope each of you enjoyed your long weekend with your family. This special holiday weekend is significant for so many and we are glad the district supported us with the day off on Friday.
This week's calendar looks quiet but let me assure you that there is a lot going on throughout the building everyday. Between preparing for "Summer Camp," M.A.P. assessments, and S.T.A.A.R., our teachers are working extremely hard to prepare students. Speaking of M.A.P., the window for its administration opens this week and goes through April 19. So, if your child's teacher has not shared the date(s) for the assessment, please ask. S.T.A.A.R. is also very close. In fact, 5th graders will be sharing what they know next week in reading and in math. Thanks for doing all you do to help your child be ready for the path they will follow in the upcoming days.
As we make our approach to the final grading period of the year, it is very important to help your child finish up on the work from the 5th 6-weeks grading period. Being aware and acting on missing work, make-up work to be done, and corrective action on unsatisfactory work can be the difference between passing and failing, between an A and a B, or feeling discouraged and accomplished. Help your child feel accomplished. It's a great feeling.
In closing, let me encourage you to keep your calendar close by so that you do not miss any performances, assessments, or deadlines for your child. Life is too short to miss out on potential memory-making activities.
As always, thank you for choosing the Academy of the Arts at Bransom to call your home away from home.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Burchfield
ATTENDANCE ATTENTION
Congratulations, 5th grade families. Again, your attendance was the best on our campus the week before the break at 97.5%. Wow! Our overall attendance was at 96.39%! Thanks for all you do to get your child to school each and on time. It matters to us all.
Madison Possin: School Board Recognition for our Spelling Bee Winner - CONGRATULATIONS!
AMAZING KINDER WORK - DO I SEE QUOTATION MARKS?
Closed Campus to Visitors during STAAR
Our students have worked hard this year and in years prior to prepare to "share what they know" with the state. We are excited to have our students share their knowledge. The results of the S.T.A.A.R.s provide data on how our school has academically prepared students. This is ACCOUNTABILITY and all of us need to be accountable for our work. Therefore, we are asking that appointments be avoided on the following days to insure all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are counted in our accountability. We do not want our students' absences during S.T.A.A.R. to reflect negatively on our school. By the way, attendance in general is accounted for in our school's accountability. So , thanks for being here!

Please note that 5th grade math and reading retakes are scheduled by the state in order for students who do not pass or who are not present for the assessments to have a 2nd and 3rd opportunity to retake their math and reading assessments. (Personally, being ready the first time sounds like a good plan.) The goal is for all 5th graders to move to 6th grade prepared and ready for at least the 6th grade curriculum.
