The Coyote Howl
Campo Verde High School
From Our Principal
Dear Parents and Community Members,
It’s hard to believe we are in the midpoint of the 2017-18 school year.
Campo has a couple larger projects we have been working on during the Fall semester. In particular, we are in the second year of 1:1 computer initiative with all grade levels now having computers. Making the instructional shifts with technology is a process, but we continue to focus on our core work of teaching and learning. Despite the increased technology in our classrooms, we can never replace outstanding teachers.
Our teachers continue to work on implementing instructional strategies that engage students in learning using technology. Overall, our campus focus for instruction is centered around the the Rigor, Relevance, Relationship Framework. Instructionally, this means making shifts to challenge students at the highest depth of Knowledge levels. Strategies like inquiry based instruction, project based lessons, and document based analysis are examples of the shifts.
We will begin the work of planning for the 2018-19 school year, starting with the registration process. Registration for current CVHS students will begin in January. Counselors will be visiting with each student starting in the middle of January. Students should be bringing home the essential registration material as they will be receiving them in Math classes. As always, I thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Mike De La Torre

1st Period Sweep Program
Campo Verde High School Parents/Guardians and Students:
At the beginning of the spring semester, we will be implementing a sweep program as we have a significant number of students arriving late to school. This is only a first period program, all other periods of the day will be handled according to student handbook. The purpose of sweep is to keep the educational process going without numerous interruptions from tardy students; while promoting student responsibility and assisting them in learning the importance of accountability and punctuality.
Below is a brief explanation of sweep:
Students who do not arrive to their first hour class on time will be redirected to the sweep room. A parent or guardian must physically enter the building to sign in the late student, otherwise the student will be directed to sweep. Parent phone calls will not excuse the sweep.
While in sweep students will not be able to work on assignments, socialize, or use any electronic devices. Procedures will be in place for students to make up class work and tests they may have missed when they were in Sweep. If a student is swept on a test day, the teacher will allow the student to make up the test. Students who have an assignment due will deliver it to the teacher that same day. All students will be informed of how the Sweep program will be integrated into their school day.
Students who demonstrate repeated tardy behavior will be subject to the progression of interventions and disciplinary action in an effort to encourage and teach proper time management skills.
Consequences for sweep will go as follows:
1st Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period and it will be documented.
2nd Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period and receive a referral.
3rd Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period and assigned Saturday School.
Data will be collected on the effectiveness of the program as we believe the sweep program will benefit students, parents and teachers. We strive to give students every opportunity to be successful and the first step towards success is having prompt attendance.
Sincerely,
CVHS Administration

Chromebook Care Reminders:
- Students should take a little time over the holiday break to clean their Chromebook. Use just a little vinegar mixed with water and spray the mixture onto a cloth. Gently clean the Chromebook using a circular motion while the Chromebook is powered off.
- Also, students should update their Chromebook to make sure it is on version 63.
- Make sure to keep your Chromebook safe over the holidays. Keep it stored somewhere that it won’t be stepped on, knocked over, etc.
- Lastly, charge your Chromebook the night before we come back to school. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you on January 7.
