Franklin Family News

Volume 1 - Issue 9 - October 16, 2020

From the Desk of Principal Anderson

Hello Franklin Families!

Irrigation water is going off and the leaves are beginning to drop. You have to love this time of year-all the bounty of harvest and the cool nights, warm days.

I would like to thank all of you who dropped by to pick up school supplies. We handed out almost 500 packages. If you would still like to pick one up, we will have one more distribution day next Wednesday, October 21s , 7am to 7pm. Go to the flagpole side of the building and follow the signs. The supplies are free. It is also food distribution day so pick up a week’s worth of food while you are at school!

Secondly, student conferences are November 4-6. Conferences will be student led and virtual. Just think, you can sit in the comfort of your own home as your student explains his or her grades. How nice! Scheduling information will be supplied by teachers so watch for it!

Last of all, the quarter ends October 29th. Unlike last spring, students will be held accountable for completing work and attending class. All students still have time to complete missing work and turn it in. As a parent, you can always check grades through Skyward. Your student can show you how.

Don’t forget, clocks go back the last weekend of the month!

Have a great week!

Franklin Bolt Winners

We would like to give a HUGE shout out to our students who have hit the mark of earning 10 virtual Franklin Bolts!! The items that they can select from range from having a short online dance party in one of their Google Meets to picking the crazy hairstyle of their teacher for the day. We would like to invite our Franklin Middle School parents to join our Parent Involvement Committee. We will meet the 3rd Wednesday of every month, via Google Meet, from 8:00am - 9:00am. Our purpose is to host events that will increase our connections with our families, and provide opportunities for our parents for things such as technology "how to" trainings on Skyward, Google Doc/Mail, Canvas. We will also focus on building community within our school family with events such as family game nights and other opportunities to connect. We would love your ideas, input, and support as a member of this team. If you are interested in joining, please fill out the form below.

Update from 8th Grade Language Arts

Students in Mrs. Vasquez’s 8th grade Language Arts classes have been reading suspenseful narratives this quarter, such as Edgar Allen Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart. One strategy they have used to determine the main events and summarize is the TAD chart (Transitions, Actions, Details.) Next week students will write their own suspenseful narratives; perhaps they’ll even share some of their own writing with you in the next newsletter! (Right, students? ) A huge support for the class is having helpful students, engaging in the material and with each other.

Franklin Flow Chart

The PBIS Team would like to share with you our updated discipline flow chart that we use with our students and staff. We have also implemented a new reflection form for our students which we believe will be a way to build positive relationships when an issue has occurred.
