Jump Rope for Heart
(Thursday, November 1, 2018)
Dear Parents,
Horace Mann will be having their annual Jump Rope for Heart event on November 1st in Lamkin gym. Your child received a collection packet and any money collected can be put in the packet and turned into the school secretary or classroom teacher but the final collection day will be on November 1st.
Did you know that jumping rope for 5 minutes has the same effect on the body as running a mile? Jump Rope for Heart has been teaching kids the importance of a healthy heart and raising funds for heart disease and stroke research for more than 25 years. Their philosophy is “Kids can make a difference”!
There is a great deal of research that supports the fact that jumping rope is also a benefit to reading comprehension. Jump Rope for Heart is a fun and exciting way to learn jump rope skills and the benefits of exercise while raising money to fight our nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers, heart disease and stroke.
You can ask family members and friends for support and even raise money online. The American Heart Association gives gifts based on the amount of money each of the students raises but the best gift is knowing you helped people live longer, healthier lives.
As always I ask the kids to make sure their parents are supervising them while they fundraise for the American Heart Association but they also know that if they can’t fundraise this year that is ok, every child will get to participate in the event and all children will receive a token of appreciation from me and the American Heart Association for participating in the jumping activities.
Last year Horace Mann Elementary raised nearly $3,000.00. It was a tremendous blessing to our Physical Education Department and we received sporting equipment gift certificates from the American Heart Association. Over the past few years, this money has helped us get a lot of needed equipment for our physical education program. We hope to break our record again this year and I thank you, parents, for all of your support. If you have any questions please call or text me at 816-262-3459.
Thank you for your support,
Gina McNeese
