What is Title I?
Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act provides financial assistance to school districts and schools with high percentages of children from families that have economic disadvantages. The federal funding is used to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are currently allocated through four statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state. Title I is the largest of the federally funded education programs.
Albert Schweitzer Elementary School is a Schoolwide Title I school. Our Title I funds and services can provide strategies for improving the entire school so that every student achieves high levels of academic proficiency. Below are some of the benefits to being a Schoolwide Title I school:
- All students may participate in Title I funded initiatives
- Maximizes flexibility in using Federal funds
- Serves as a vehicle for whole-school reform with focus on improving achievement of lowest- achieving students.
- Addresses student needs through a Schoolwide plan based on a comprehensive needs assessment.
How Parents & Families Can Get Involved in Title I
Parents are notified about Title I services and encouraged to participate in school activities/meetings. Families may participate in informational meetings and learning opportunities throughout the school year. Parents are provided information via newsletters, conferences, school web pages, meetings and workshops.

Federal Programs & Title I Annual Meeting
A sincere thank you the parents and guardians that attended the virtual Federal Programs Overview , Albert Schweitzer Elementary School Title I Annual Meeting and Parent Advisory Council Meeting on Tuesday, October 5th. In order to accommodate busy schedules, we offered two meetings this year: 1) daytime in person meeting 2) nightime virtual meeting. Parents that participated had the opportunity to learn about NSD Federal Programs, the Schweitzer Title I program and participate in Parent Advisory functions in the review and revision of the following documents: Schweitzer Title I Parent & Family Engagement Policy and Home-School Compact. Additionally, parents provided feedback for these documents via the Title I Family Input Form.
Family participation in the development of these plans is valuable and essential. The only way our efforts to have meaningful impact is to ensure that you, the families and caregivers, understand how your collaboration with the school will benefit student success.
Albert Schweitzer ES Parent Resource Center

The center includes a lending library of materials, computer access and other support for a variety of services. It is designed to ensure the academic and social-emotional well-being of every student at Albert Schweitzer Elementary by providing a center for accessing those programs and help.
Parents are invited to make an appointment to visit and use the PRC.
