Explanation
The first amendment protects our rights to speech, religion, press, petition, and peaceful assembly. Protection of speech and religion means that we as American citizens have the right to voice our opinions and also to believe in any type of religion or no religion at all. Freedom of press means that we have the right to media and the right to know whats going on in our government as with the rest of the world. The right to peaceful assembly says that we can assemble to discuss problems with the government as long as it is peaceful. Petition means that Americans citizens may send letters discussing problems that they see with the government or with something the government might being doing.
