Please mark in your calendars the Family Picnic which is next Friday 17th February from 5pm to 7pm. Families are asked to RSVP and Pre-Order Sausage Sizzles on this form, by Monday 13th February. Please see below for more information from the P & F. We look forward to a wonderful evening at our Annual Family Picnic.

This week under the Parent Reading heading, we have included an Insights article titled, 'Starting the Year Off Right' by Dr Justin Coulson. Getting back into a routine, being on time, sorting out school lunches… it’s a bit tricky. Best-laid plans haven’t quite been as smooth as you might have liked. To dial in your morning and evening routines, Dr Coulson suggests a few principles to help.
A friendly reminder that we are planning to hold our annual Family Picnic on Friday the 17th February from 5.00pm to 7.00pm on our school oval.
This is a P&F community event aimed at providing an opportunity for families to simply be together and to catch up with one another in a relaxed, social setting.
While you are very welcome to bring your own picnic dinner, a P&F Sausage Sizzle is also being offered as a cheap and easy alternative for any interested families.
While it is acceptable for parents to bring drinks to the event, responsible alcohol consumption is of course expected. There will be a limited bar of wine, beer and soft drink.
Confirmation of your Attendance
We ask that you confirm whether your family is planning to attend and how many people are coming.
Things for the Kids to do
All supervision of children is a parent responsibility on the night. Staff will set up a few activities on the oval for any children and Mums and Dads who would like to get involved.
Activities will run from 5.15pm – 6.15pm. Before and after this time, children are to either be sitting with their family or playing on the oval with a parent overseeing their movements.
Please note that for both legal and safety reasons no children are permitted to play on the playground equipment at all during the picnic. Children are welcome to bring a ball, a book, drawing gear or game to also keep them entertained.
At 7.00pm we ask families to please pack up and to take your own rubbish home. Respecting this end time means that pack up can happen while it is still light and staff can get home to see their own families at a reasonable time :)

Annual Community Meeting
Safer Internet Day - 7th February
This week we celebrated the 20th anniversary of Safer Internet Day. Safer Internet Day is an opportunity for schools, communities and families to learn more about how to stay safe online. Safer Internet Day is observed globally and coordinated in Australia by the eSafety Commissioner.
Families can find out more about Safer Internet Day by visiting https://www.esafety.gov.au/newsroom/whats-on/safer-internet-day-2023
This week our Year 2 - 6 students took part in activities where they discussed and learned about the different ways that we can be safe online, especially when communicating with people we do not know in games and social apps.
Year 2 - Watched Jimmy Ree’s read the book “Swoosh, Glide and Rule Number 5”, where they learned about having rules at home to manage device use and what to do when they see something online that makes them uncomfortable. They then discussed a range of personal statements they could follow to stay safe when on their devices and created a digital poster on Seesaw of their top 5 statements.
Year 3 + 4 - Watched four short videos on eSafety that covered responsibility, respect, investigation and trusting their feelings. After watching each video, the students discussed the key messages and answered questions on Seesaw about each of the key characters and how they reacted to the online situations.
Year 5 + 6 - Engaged with a presentation about online friends and strangers. The students connected with a real life situation of a young girl who accepted a friend request from a stranger on a social media site which became uncomfortable for her. The students identified warning signs when chatting to people online and discussed how we can keep ourselves safe and to use the report/block functions as well as alert trusted adults when uncomfortable situations happen online.

P & F Volunteers
The P&F received an overwhelming response from families expressing their interest to help with school events. It certainly highlights the incredible community spirit we are blessed to have here at St. Emilie’s. A very heartfelt thank you. With any event, there are limited spaces for helpers. Please know though, that we appreciate your willingness and interest to help, the gift of your time, your support and contributions.
Volunteers are a valued part of the heart of our school community. Thank you once again for your expressions of interest.
