Acts of Character: Gratitude
The Shannon Park Acts of Character Program revolves around teaching, promoting and recognizing positive character traits in students. During the month of November, we will be focusing on the character trait of Gratitude. Gratefulness is more than a feeling - it involves action! Gratitude is letting others know by my words and actions how they have benefited my life.

Do You Love Art ? Join our Art Adventure Team!
We are seeking volunteers to join our Art Adventure team as PICTURE PEOPLE! Picture People are volunteers that attend a training and then go into classrooms to facilitate conversations and learning. Art Adventure is a Minneapolis Institute of Art program that engages students with works of art from MIA’s collection through the support of thousands of trained, school volunteers. To learn more about Art Adventure, please click HERE.
In a year that looks different in many ways, Art Adventure is no different! In years past, picture people attended an in-person training at the MIA and then visited the classroom to share the works of art within our chosen theme for the year. This year, picture people will be engaging in a digital training from home and videos will be created by our Shannon Park Art Adventure team that we will share with classrooms of both learning styles. As requested by the teacher, we will also be available for live Q and A sessions where we dig deeper into the individual artworks of our theme. You can click HERE for a general description of the picture person role, knowing we have made adjustments this year due to Covid-19.
As a picture person, your commitment would include:
1. Watching a 25 minute video introducing this year’s theme and the 6 artworks we will be sharing with students (Nov. 2020)
2. Attend a digital training session (approx. 45 minutes) to learn more about the art works in our collection and how we can share them with our school community (Nov. 2020)
3. Taking part in creating video content to share with students (optional) (Nov. & Dec. 2020)
4. Participating in digital, scheduled Q and A sessions with classrooms (Jan. 2021)
If interested in becoming a Picture Person for the 2020/2021 school year or for more information about the program or volunteer commitment, please contact the Art Adventure coordinator, Lindsay Piram by emailing her at lindsaypiram@me.com.
