DISMISSAL CHANGES
CRES Families,
We will be utilizing School Dismissal Manager again this year. We will begin using it officially on Monday, August 28th. This system will provide a more organized and efficient tracking system for end of day dismissals. It is intended to replace the notes, emails and phone calls to the office and/or teacher. School Dismissal Manager provides all school staff members with the instructions for dismissing your child and will be followed daily. In order to give all parents time to access, familiarize themselves and update School Dismissal Manager, we are providing everyone 3 weeks before we start. Please complete the following steps:
1. On the 1st day of school, send a note in with your child/children for their teacher that specifies exactly how they are going home at the end of the day (bus, car rider, bicycle, YMCA, etc.) Please provide dismissal notes to the teacher through Friday, August 25th.
2. Between Tuesday, August 8th through Sunday, August 27th, log into the School Dismissal Manager website and change the temporary dismissal default from “To the Moon” to your child’s accurate permanent dismissal default (bus, car rider, bicycle, YMCA, etc.).
3. Beginning Monday, August 28th, do not send notes/emails, only update dismissal (end of school day) instructions in School Dismissal Manager. Daily exceptions can be made prior to 2:30 pm only
School Dismissal Manager website: https://www.schooldismissalmanager.com/
For Recurring Dismissal Instructions and additional help, please refer to the links on the top of the parent page when logged in.
Check out the School Dismissal Manager app, as well!
Early Release Mondays
Dear HSE Parents and Guardians:
To provide teachers with consistent and more frequent opportunities for professional development, Hamilton Southeastern Schools has implemented a 20-minute, early-release day each Monday for students, K-12, for the 2017-2018 school year. In turn, teachers will remain 25 minutes later on Mondays for a total of 45 minutes of professional development time each week. The first observance will be Monday, August 14, 2017.
The new weekly meetings will replace the four professional development half days currently in the 2016-2017 calendar. A link to the 2017-2018 school calendar is below:

Speech and Hearing Screenings
Speech and hearing screenings are conducted at the beginning of each school year. Speech screenings are completed with kindergarten, first, and second grades. Hearing screenings are completed with kindergarten, first and fourth grades. You will be contacted by the school Speech Language Pathologist if there are any concerns. Thank you!

10th CRES Fun Friday – September 1st
On Friday, September 1st all students at Cumberland Road Elementary will have the opportunity to participate in the 10th CRES Fun Friday which will take place right after school from 3:40-5:30pm. There will be something for everyone to enjoy! Not only will students have an opportunity to dance to music from a live DJ or watch a movie while eating pizza in the cafeteria, but there will also be fun activities and free time on the playground. We are limited to the first 200 reservations. Registration forms will come home on Monday, 8/14 or print out the flyer attached to this email.
REPORTING AN ABSENCE, LATE ARRIVAL OR EARLY DISMISSAL
Anytime your child will be late to school or absent, it is important to call the CRES Office at 317-594-4170 to report that absence or late arrival. Often time parents notify the classroom teacher but fail to notify the office.
If your student will be leaving early, please notify the teacher to have them ready at the time you would like them dismissed. Thank you and we appreciate your help.
LATE ARRIVALS
Students arriving after 8:55 am are considered tardy and need to be escorted to the office by a parent to be signed in. If there are no staff outside to welcome your student into the building, please do not drop them off to enter the building alone.
MORNING DROP OFF
It is very important that students are not dropped off prior to 8:45 am. Students dropped off prior to this time pose a safety concern because we do not have staff available to supervise students that are dropped off early. We do understand that you have schedules to adhere to, however, we would appreciate your cooperation. If you are in need of before school care for your child, please contact the YMCA at 317-484-9622 for assistance.
CLASSROOM INTERRUPTIONS
Interruptions due to late student arrivals, early dismissals, delivery of forgotten belongings, homework, and snacks can deter the effectiveness of teaching and learning in the classroom. Please encourage your student to be responsible and remember to bring items needed for school each day. Please refrain from dropping off forgotten items to help teach your child responsibility and help limit unnecessary disruptions.
VOLUNTEERS/VISITORS
Parents that would like to volunteer in the classroom, have lunch with their children, or are selected to go on a class field trip, must have a Hamilton Southeastern Schools background check on file. The cost of the background check is $13 and will be valid for 3 years. Please allow 6 business days to complete the process. Once the process is complete you will receive an e-mail from Safe Visitors with your badge to check-in with our school office.
Please visit:
http://www.hse.k12.in.us/ADM/parents/volunteering.aspx to fill out the background check form. You may also click on the Quicklink on the Cumberland Road website.
NO OUTSIDE FOOD ALLOWED
Please remember that it is a HSE District Policy that outside food (McDonald’s, Burger King, Subway, etc.) cannot be brought into the school café. If you are having lunch with your child, you are able to order a hot lunch or salad from the café or bring a sack lunch from home. Please call by 9:15 am to reserve your spot for lunch.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Due to the number of students who have food allergies, birthdays are not allowed to be celebrated at school. Birthday invitations should be mailed from home and not handed out individually at school. HSE schools cannot accept present, balloon or flower deliveries of any kind for students.
Notification of Pesticide Application
Per state guidelines, some planned applications of pesticides require school districts to notify parents, guardians and staff members at least 48 hours prior to application. The information provided will include:
· Name or address of school where pesticide application is occurring
· Contact information for more details
· Anticipated date and time of pesticide application
· Pest(s) being targeted
· Description of application area
· Pesticide(s) to be used
The link to Pesticide Notification information can be found on the Hamilton Southeastern Schools website (hse.k12.in.us) by clicking on “Schools/Staff”, then selecting “Facilities Information” from the menu. Active notifications will appear under “Pesticide and Herbicide Announcements”. If required notification cannot be posted on the Pesticide Notification site at least 48 hours prior to application, a notice with this information will be posted in the “News” section of the HSE website. The information on the website will be provided by the facilities department, and updated as needed. If you do not have access to the Hamilton Southeastern Schools website, or have further questions, please contact the HSE Facilities Department at (317) 594-4380.
