XC RUNS FAST AT TIM NIXON INVITATIONAL
On Saturday, September 3, 2022, the Smithville Warrior Cross Country team travelled to Liberty, MO to compete in the 5th Annual Tim Nixon Invitational. For the first time, the meet was held at the Capitol Federal Sports Complex which proved to be one of the flattest 5K courses in the state.
With overcast skies, cool temperatures, and over 30 teams competing, the stage was set for athletes to run some fast times. The varsity girls race was up first with 173 racers. After splitting the results into divisions, Smithville took 4th place in the silver division.
Our lady Warrior runners were: Jessica Baker, Danica Ballard, Bailey Cutler, Naomi Hunter, Genevieve Kochanowicz, McKinley Massie, and Lilly Richardson.
Next up was the boys varsity race with 175 racers. After splitting the results into divisions, the Smithville boys team took 2nd place to Father Tolton by a mere 3 points.
All athletes ran well, but sophomore Liam Adair put together a very special performance. Coming into the race, his personal record was 16:48. When the gun went off, he got off the line fast and started making his way to the front pack. He rolled through his first mile in 5 minutes flat, then nearly hit a personal best 2 mile split with 10:12, and went on to finish strong running 15:53.1. Liam’s time set a new Smithville school record breaking the previous mark by 25 seconds! The previous record of 16:18.1 was set in 2018 by Jonah Palmer at the Missouri Southern Stampede.
Our gentlemen runners were: Liam Adair, Trent Hallett, Braxton Hays, Asa Kellner, John Malter, Colin Miller, Nolan Pestano, Merik Wilson and, Quentin Zimmer.
Full results of the meet including junior varsity and C-Team can be found at: https://morgansports.net/results/timnixon2022.php
The Smithville Warriors will travel with their top varsity athletes to St. Louis to compete in the Forest Park XC Festival this Saturday, September 10, 2022.

22-23 Chromebook Insurance
If you have not yet purchased Chromebook insurance it's not too late! Having insurance for your student's chromebook can mean the difference between a $25 deductible fee and hundreds of dollars in repair fees. Uninsured repair fees start at $45 and go up from there. In addition, students who do not have chromebook insurance are required to leave their chromebook at school instead of taking it home.
Chromebook insurance costs $15 and can still be purchased. Here is the link to purchase insurance.
Families with Free & Reduced lunch benefits have the $15 waived.
If you paid for insurance last year, it will expire on 9/20/22. Don't delay, purchase your Chromebook insurance today!
We need your help with the Career Fair
The Career Fair on September 21 is fast approaching, and we are still in need of individuals and businesses to participate and share their knowledge. In a nutshell, we want to allow students to explore different career paths by talking with and asking questions of real world representatives from each of the 16 career clusters.
If you have any contacts that would be willing to help us out, please send them my way or share the Career Fair Website with them. A sign-up link is included on the website. I've also attached a flyer to share if you'd like.
We need multiple representatives for each career area and welcome all that can participate, but we especially have gaps in the following areas:
STEM/Engineering
Manufacturing
Transportation, Distribution & Logistics
Information Technology
Thanks in advance for your help!

In addition to being the Athletic Trainer for the district I am also the current President of Smithville Community in Action. Our biggest fundraiser is our annual 5k which will be held Saturday Sept. 17th at 8:30. We are still looking for more participants. Even if you don't want to run, we also have walkers. You can sign up for the 5k at https://www.smithvillecia.org/5k
Sign up will continue until the week of, but in order to guarantee a t-shirt please sign up by Friday Aug 26th.
Unable to join us for a run, we are also seeking volunteers to help with the actual race itself. There are several different volunteer opportunities. You can fill out this google form if you would like to help. We provide all of our volunteers with a great shirt as well!
