Grant Gazette
November 2021
Quick notes from Mr. Berryman
Dear Families:
Our after-school Achievement Center will continue in November and December. We are providing some extra time and practice for students who may need it, according to their teachers.
The program is now full for November and December (I have reserved a couple of spots for students who are sick for an extended period of time.) We will send out notices again in December to identify students who would benefit from the program in January.
The best way to stay on top of what's going on in your child's classroom is through his/her Seesaw page. Make sure you have a Seesaw account and access it frequently to see some of the great things happening in our classrooms. Contact your child's teacher for more information.
Please consider doing the following to help us keep a safe learning environment at school:
- Label backpacks, water bottles, hoodies, coarts, etc with student names. Our lost and found is growing!
- Make sure your student keeps toys and other distractions at home.
- Drop off and pick up students along the curb only! Don't drop them off in the middle of the street or expect them to walk between cars to your vehicle in the middle of the street.
- Do not park in the parking lot north of the school. This is not supervised and it's a tight fit with staff cars, NPS vehicles, trash trucks, milk trucks, and more.
- Send your child to school with an ear ache, stomach ache, or something like that. If the symptoms get worse, we'll call you. If they have a fever or are vomiting, keep them home!
I hope you have a very thankful November!
Mr. Berryman
Join SchoolStore.com!
In September, we kicked off the program with fun assembly and asked the kids to bring home and envelope full of information and to send emails to family, friends, and co-workers that explained the program. Students got a prize for just sending those emails out!
Now, these friends and families are purchasing items from SchoolStore.com. Grant School has earned over $600 of profit during this school year! In addition, teachers have received gift cards worth a total of $3,500 to be used at the school store. Thank you so much for your purchases and donations so far.
We will continue using the School Store all year. If the beginning of the school year was just too hectic and you and your child would like to participate, just have your child talk to Mr. Berryman in the office and he will send your student home with an envelope that explains the program in detail.
You can also watch a short video about the program, go to http://schoolstore.com/video. Click on the banner that says, "Huggers Only." This is the same video that the students watched on Sept. 7.

What is PBiS?
Dear Parents,
Our school is participating in an important district initiative. It is called Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS).
What is Positive Behavior Interventions and Support?
PBIS is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. It is a systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing research-based, school-wide, and classroom behavior support systems. The process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students. Rather than a prescribed program, PBIS provides systems for schools to design, implement, and evaluate effective school-wide, classroom, non-classroom, and student specific plans. PBIS includes school-wide procedures and processes intended for all students and all staff in all settings. PBIS is not a program or a curriculum. It is a team-based process for systemic problem solving, planning, and evaluation. It is an approach to creating a safe and productive learning environment where teachers can teach and all students can learn.
What is PBIS at our school?
We have adopted a unified set of schoolwide expectations. You will see these rules posted throughout the school and your child will be learning them and practicing them the entire school year. Our classroom expectations, found in every classroom and non-classroom setting in the school, show our students how to be respectful, responsible, and safe in the different areas of our building.
