COUGAR COURIER
April 26th, 2019
From the desk of Principal Ruiz
ILEARN testing will be given to all scholars in grades 3rd - 8th grade this week. Testing will take place first thing in the morning each day of the week, for most scholars. We encourage all families to ensure their students each day. Research shows that students who test with their class perform better than if they are tested in a make-up session. Thank you for helping the CIA team maximize the opportunity for each scholar to show what they know!
Be sure to mark your calendar for the final PTSC meeting that will be held on May 1st in the CIA Media Center.
The newest members of the CIA team have arrived! Ten baby ducklings have fought their way out of their shell of a home to join the Cougar family. Be sure to see the beauty and science of new life shared in the photos this week.
Be sure to check the academic progress for your scholar this week; Progress Reports are available in PowerSchool on May 2nd.
On May 3rd our 5th grade scholars will celebrate the end of the Latin program with our Notre Dame partners. Be sure to ask a 5th grade scholar what they have learned from the Latin experience.
Have a wonderful weekend - as always, it is a great day to be a Cougar!
Serving with scholars in mind,
Ms. Angela Ruiz, Ph.D. Candidate, Ed.S.
Dear parents:
As we approach the testing season, please remember, amongst students who will be taking the high-stakes assessments this week, there is an artist, an entrepreneur, a musician, an athlete...the future leaders of our world. If your student has mastered every standard, we applaud their accomplishment. However, if your student has yet to master every standard, please do not take away from their self-confidence and dignity. Tell them it is OK to not pass an exam as long as they perform with every effort and talent that lies within them. Our scholars are created for more things in life than just a test score. We love each student, regardless of the test result. We look forward to watching our scholars become the leaders of tomorrow. One exam will not diminish their dreams and talent.
With love, from the CIA family
CIA Administrative Professionals are Appreciated!
The administrative professionals at CIA are crucial to the everyday operations at our school. Mrs. Pol and Mrs. Greider are often the unsung heroes of the office, carrying out challenging tasks and providing administrative support that allows the rest of the team to focus on their jobs. In honor of their efforts, our scholars created cards, made flowers, and shared hugs as a small token of our appreciation for all the hard work they do. We love you Mrs. Pol and Mrs. Greider!
ILEARN Assessment for 3rd - 8th Grade Scholars
Frequently asked questions:
Is ILEARN different from ISTEP+, or will it be the same test with a new name?
ILEARN is fundamentally different from ISTEP+. ILEARN is being developed to align to new blueprints and new item specifications. Educator committees will also recommend new proficiency levels and cut scores that will inform how student results are reported.
What standards will ILEARN measure?
ILEARN measures all Indiana Academic Standards, including content literacy and media literacy standards on the English/Language Arts assessments, process standards on the Mathematics assessments, and the new computer science standards on the Science assessment.
How will ILEARN be delivered?
ILEARN is a computer-adaptive test (CAT) for Mathematics and English/Language Arts. CATs individualize the test for students based on their responses to previous questions or sets of questions. This allows for a unique assessment experience for students at their level of mastery, resulting in more precise data outcomes. Science assessments will be an online fixed form assessment for Spring 2019, transitioning to computer adaptive as the item bank increases. Social Studies is an online fixed form assessment.
