Centennial's Newsday Tuesday
Centennial Elementary Families' Weekly Newsletter 11/2/2021
A Note from the Principal
Happy November! Here are some of the important and exciting things happening at Centennial:
Trunk-or-Treat was a BOOTIFUL Success! Thank you!
Our first Trunk-or-Treat event turned out bigger and better than I think any of us imagined (I've included videos and photos below!) It was so fantastic seeing the children laughing with friends! All of the families and our Centennial staff did an amazing job decorating the trunks: there were all kinds of exciting themes: Pirates, Jurassic Park, Gumball Machines, Candy Land, etc.
Thank you, Centennial PTO, Families, and Staff, so much for your help gathering candy, working with your "PALS," decorating, and attending --we had such an amazing turnout of staff, and several parents commented how happy they were to so many of you there. A fun time was had by all!

(Just 13 School Days 'till Thanksgiving Break!)
With appreciation and kind regards,

Hello Centennial Families!
I hope this message finds that you are all doing well! We want to thank you for sharing your children with us at Centennial! We collectively are working hard to ensure that your child has the best academic and social-emotional experience here.
As counselors it is our responsibility to deliver lessons during our SEAL classes that are aligned with the American School Counseling Association, ASCA. These lessons will focus on 3 main categories: learning strategies, self-management skills, and social skills. If you ask your child what they have been learning in their SEAL classes, we are hopeful that they can share what we are teaching them. We will continue to review the basic skills of self- regulation each time and throughout the year, and you too can help reinforce these by asking your child what they need to do in order to feel calm or to return to a state of calmness. We also instruct that in addition to breathing, that it’s important they make a connection with someone to share their problem, identify their problem, and to look for solutions. Children need to practice this model, and we as adults can be their best examples. Additionally, help them identify what healthy activities they can engage to bring calmness, and explain how it’s different for each of us. We just covered Healthy Lifestyles lessons to coordinate with our Red Ribbon Week, a national anti-drug campaign. We teach if we don’t engage and practice healthy choices as a way to cope when we are young, we are at higher risk for unhealthy habits as adults. We also addressed anti-bullying education, and you can help by talking to your child about kindness, respect, and empathy. In an effort to teach empathy, try giving your child scenarios regularly and ask what would they do and how they would feel in certain situations that are age appropriate.
As we move into November and closer to Thanksgiving, let us all be mindful of and practice stating 3 reasons to be thankful each day. You can do this at breakfast, dinner, or in the car as a family or as individuals. We hope all of you have the most wonderful month and Thanksgiving holiday!
May you all feel loved and appreciated!

To honor our district's safety protocols, volunteer activities at this time take place in the PALS & PTO rooms on our campus and masks are required. Thank you for understanding and know that, just like you, we can't wait until we may welcome precious and valued family members in more frequently! For more information about these safety protocols, please click here.
In Case of Absence
Families, did you know that you may call 405-726-4699 any time to leave a message regarding your student's need to be absent or tardy? We encourage this so the phone lines aren’t tied up in the morning during AM drop off. If a family accidentally forgets to call on when a student is absent, an automated call goes out at 10:30 to families who have not yet reported their child is absent as a reminder. Thank you!
