A Note from Miss Fisher
August 25, 2018
Excited to see the ways you will work to cultivate your classroom family and build connections with new Pandas during your Morning Meeting and throughout the day! Here is a link to the Brain Smart Start article we read together at our Kickoff Meeting if you are interested. I also created some slides to layout the 4 components for you to explore!
Please confirm your schedule and duty on the PES Master Schedule.
Here are the Pittsboro Bottom Lines for classrooms that we reviewed with PLCs this past week.

Furniture Requests
Please use this link to make any furniture requests. Mrs. Slaughter will coordinate the pickup and redistribution. If you have multiple requests, you will need to submit them individually.
Important Staff Reminders
Absences: Please remember all non emergency absences should have prior approval from Miss Fisher. For emergency absences please text Mrs. Slaughter and Miss Fisher (Mrs. Petty if it is for buses) after you enter into Aesop (Absence Management) so we can plan accordingly for the day.
Staff Arrival: All staff should be on campus no later than 7:30 and ready to greet students in your classroom by 7:35. Teachers should greet students at the doorway. Be to assigned duty areas on time.
Morning Memo: Each morning before school starts look for a morning Memo from Mrs. Slaughter with important information including who is absent or off campus that day.
Specials Schedule: This year grades K,1,3, and 4 do not rotate specials by day number. Instead, your special schedule is based on the day of the week. 2nd grade has a 6 day rotation. To avoid confusion we will NOT be announcing a specials day on morning announcements. Second grade, we will include your specials rotation day in the morning memo. This is included in the specials schedule tab on the PES Master Schedule Google Sheet.
Health Room: Mrs. Slaughter has created forms that students will need to visit the Health Room. In order for you to provide care in the classroom, we are also working to create "red bags" in your rooms for minor needs. More info to come.
Refrigerators: These are only allowed in your classrooms if there is a medical emergency, please discuss with Miss Fisher if you have special medical circumstances.

Welcome to the #pandafamily
Excited to introduce you to some of our newest members of the #PandaFamily :)
Miroslava Budlong, Part Time PE
I’m excited to be a new PE teacher at Pittsboro Elementary School. Originally I’m from Slovakia, living in US for the last 21 years. My family decided to move from San Diego, CA to Chapel Hill two years ago and we are absolutely in love with North Carolina.
Over the years as an educator I’ve been a preschool teacher, a K-8 classroom teacher, a reading specialist, a librarian but my heart was always in Physical Education. So, for the past 7 years I’ve been a PE teacher and enjoyed every minute of it. Additionally, I’m an avid Spartan Racer and Crossfit coach. I hope that this year will be a first of many great years with staff and students at Pittsboro Elementary :)

Counselor's Corner - Panda University and Teaching PAWS
Last year, the PBIS team developed a new PAWS matrix to clearly teach behavior expectations to all students. While we are still in the process of getting the matrices printed for the building, we would like for PAWS and behavior expectations to be taught from this matrix starting this week. Please note that the old panda university lessons do NOT align to the new matrix - this is something the Behavior Team will revisit this school year. The new matrix can be found here.
A few ideas for teaching behavior expectations:
- Teach through modeling - have students act it out!
- Develop looks like/sounds like T charts for different areas (Ex. What does PAWS look like and sound like in the hallway?).
- Videos and/or read alouds.
- Go to the areas of the building and practice!
Other Behavior Resources
- PAWSitive Office Referrals We will put some in your mailbox, but please use these to celebrate students that are going above and beyond to show PAWS. We will celebrate their PAWSome behavior!!
- Sample Flowchart (the Behavior Team will create one this school year, this can be used temporarily as a guide.
- Major vs. Minor Behaviors
