Otsego High School

Weekly Newsletter (Semester I, Quarter 2, Week 13)

From the Desk of Mr. O'Shea

Thank You Veterans!

What a day we had on Wednesday this past week. I just want to thank all our guests that came out for the breakfast and the Veterans Assembly. I am proud of our staff and students and how they take the time to thank and honor our local heroes. Special thanks to our Masters of Ceremony Alissa Jacobs and Adam Canterbury. They did a great job. Also, to our choir and band. As always, they looked and sounded incredible. The tragic events of this weekend in Paris is yet another reason why we should be so grateful to these brave men and women and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of Paris and the People of France.

Also congrats to our newest members of the National Honors Society. We had a very nice ceremony Tuesday evening as well as fall sport athletes. We wrapped up the fall sports season with our awards banquet on Tuesday night as well. Congrats to all our students especially our seniors.

Please remember that students will be on a 2 Hour Delay this Wednesday for Staff Professional Development. Busses will be running 2 hours later. School starts at 9:39am. Please plan accordingly, thank you.

Homework Cafe/Study Sessions

Big image
The High School is very excited to be implementing a Homework Cafe/Study Session every Wednesday afternoon from 2:20pm-3:30pm. Homework Cafe will be held in the HS Learning Commons (HS LIbrary) and will enable students to finish homework, study for upcoming tests, work on projects, or simply have peer-to-peer tutoring.

HS Sports will not begin practices until 3:00pm every Wednesday so that still leaves roughly 40 minutes for student athletes to focus on academics.

It will be monitored by adults at all times.

Parents, we are asking for donated snacks and refreshments to kick off this new program. Items needed would be pre-packaged chips, snacks, sweets and drinks. Disposable cups and paper products would be a great donation as well.

Homework Cafe will begin on Wednesday, November 18th at 2:20pm and will be every Wednesday thereafter.

Please drop of any donated items into the HS office or send in items with your child. Call Betsy Roberts at 419-823-4381 in the HS office for any questions.

Highlights from the Week

David Bostdorff

My apologies to the David and his parents. I did not list him in the senior pages in last weeks newsletter. He was attending the National FFA convention and I completely forgot to list him as a senior and by the time I realized it, it was too late. I sincerely apologize. David is on the boys cross country team.

From Emily Cornish, Otsego ATOD prevention specialist

The ADAMHS Youth Survey, is a biennial survey which is the primary method by which the Wood County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board monitors trends in alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use among adolescents in Wood County. The results of the survey are used by educators to integrate targeted prevention efforts into school curriculum, and as data for program planning, and other collaborative community ventures designed to reduce adolescent ATOD use. The survey covers a variety of points relating to drug use, mental health, bullying, school safety and prevention education that is currently in place. The survey is completely anonymous, and is given to all Wood County students in grades 5-12. The results are then compiled to discover trends in Wood County through all of the school districts. This year, the survey will be given on November 24th. The first link below directs you to the Wood County ADAMHS Board website, where you can find previous report and other information. The second link will direct you to the parent letter, which includes the denial form if you choose to not have your child/children not take the survey. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Emily Cornish the On-Site Prevention Specialist. You may also view the survey, but you will have to set up a meeting with Mrs. Cornish. Email: ecornish@otsegoknights.org

Yearbook and Senior Pictures

"Yearbook is having a clearance sale. All yearbooks from the following years are being marked down to $10!" (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014). Email yearbook@otsegoknights.org for further information or to purchase one.

Senior Photo Requirements

  1. Photos should be a high resolution (at least 300 dpi).
  2. Must be a vertical photo, this allows more room for your classmates in the yearbook.
  3. Student must be looking at the camera; head cannot be cut off in the picture, & must be able to see student’s full face. Hands, or arms should not be blocking the shoulder shot, or touching the student's face.
  4. A head and shoulders shot is preferred, but will accept a shot from the waist up. No full body shots or students lying on the ground. We can crop pictures, but if the shot is too far away we will not be able to accept the picture.
  5. Remember, this is a formal photo, clothing should be appropriate. (Examples- no muscle tees, cleavage, or hats, or flowers in your hair, the list goes on and on.) If you have to question your clothing, then it is probably not appropriate.
  6. No props in the photo.

Seniors pictures are due by: April 4th, 2016.

If your picture is not turned in by this date, you will not be featured in the senior section of the yearbook.

Please drop off and pick up all students in the back of the buildings and do not use the north exit in the mornings.
