Un Mensaje de nuestra Directora/ A message from our Principal

Hola Palisades Parents,

We are so excited to see you soon!

We have been prepping classrooms, creating routines, and bringing houseplants in to brighten up our new school! Teachers are receiving training on social-emotional learning through our Character Strong Curriculum experts this week. Over the summer teachers did training in Restorative Justice and Universal Design for Learning. The construction team put in a couple of walls for us and did some painting to create a clean slate for us on this new adventure.

Please keep in mind that we will be very focused in these early weeks on building community and helping to regrow student stamina for being in the classroom together for full days. We want school to be fun and will remind students of routines that will allow us all to stay safe, learn a lot, hablar Espanol, and Have FUN!

We are really looking forward to seeing you all either tomorrow or on the 30th or both!

Tomorrow the Kona Ice Truck will be at Palisades from 2-3! Teachers will be out back under the covered area at tables and look forward to Meeting and Greeting your child from 3-3:30. We will not enter the building.

I believe PTO is working on this but we would love your old plates or mugs for our staff room, in case you need an excuse to update your dinnerware. Please reach out to PTO if that is something you can help with.

I appreciate your support as we navigate our safe return to school. Palisades staff share your goal of helping your child continue to love learning within a caring community and I look forward to working together to achieve it.

Warmly,

Lilian Sarlos

Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

On the first day of school:

K-2 teachers will be out front greeting students on the sidewalk in front of the school doors (see stars on map above). Your child will find their line and line up.

3-5 teachers will be waiting for students inside the second set of doors. If you plan to walk your student up to the doors, Please say goodbye at the doors, also please consider parking off campus as parking is extremely limited.

Notes for Drop Off

Mrs. Sarlos, Ms. Markman, and Mr. Nilaver will also be greeting students in front of the school if you prefer to just drive up and drop off. This may make for a smoother goodbye for many students.

Please note the arrows on the map above and familiarize yourself with the flow of traffic for efficient arrivals and dismissals.

Please remember that only adults dropping off medications will be allowed inside the building and as good examples for students, adults should not linger or congregate on school grounds.

No supervision will be provided prior to 8 a.m. Beginning at 8 a.m., supervision will be provided for students who need to be dropped off early to allow for families to facilitate multiple school drop-offs. Please complete the following survey to allow us to plan for before school supervision.

Lunch Logistics

To allow for social distancing at lunch, half of each class will be eating their lunch in the gym( or outside) with supervision while the other half will eat in the classroom. This is to ensure that when children unmask to eat they are six feet apart. To allow for ease of clean-up and to maintain distancing, we are requesting families send in a beach towel clearly labeled with the student’s name for them to eat on. This can be as simple as writing your child’s name in the corner of the towel with a sharpie. This towel will live at school and does not need to be fancy at all.

All students will be eligible for free grab and go style breakfasts and lunches. Please make sure your child knows whether to order or not.

Meet and Greet

The meet and greet tomorrow would be the perfect opportunity for students to meet their teachers before class starts.

There will be Kona Ice tomorrow 2:00pm-3:0pm

Due to COVID safety protocol, parents and students will not be entering the building tomorrow.

Teachers will be outside from 3:00pm-3:30pm greeting the students. Please after parking walk to the left of the main entrance and head right towards the back. The teachers will have a table set up.

1st Day of School

Please make sure that supplies are brought in on the first day of school, August 30th.

Our meet and greet is not a school supplies drop off time.

Smart Start

Smart Start is an opportunity specifically for our students with 504s and IEPs, and their parents and guardians, to make introductions with their teachers and to feel prepared for the start of school. For the 2021-22 School Year, Smart Start is in person Aug. 26, 2021, from 1-3 p.m.

Teachers will be familiar with your student’s plan and accommodations. To help better know your students, please complete the attached one-page profile or create one on your own ahead of time, and give it to the teacher at the Smart Start introduction.

Also, to assist in your family’s preparation for the new school year, please click here for a Smart Start checklist for parents and guardians of students with 504s and IEPs.
