Supplies for GIs
This fall, Central School is helping with a supply drive for our troops called Supplies4GI’s. Supplies4GI’s is an organization that has been sending care packages to our deployed soldiers around the world for 11 years. They partner with school corporations (Tri-Creek, Kankakee Valley, Valparaiso and Crown Point) to make this happen.
How can you help?
Send in names of soldiers (enlisted friends, relatives, neighbors) that you would like to receive letters and care packages
Donate items from your child’s grade level Wish List so they can be added to care packages.
When is this happening?
Between Thursday, October 1 and Wednesday, November 11 (Veteran’s Day)
What are the wish list items I can donate?
Kindergarten-shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, Twizzlers
1st gr- Wylers/Crystal Light sugar free drinks, body wash, canned meat
2nd gr- Rice Krispie treats, microwave soup, Spaghettio’s, Pringles
3rd gr- Ritz or cheese crackers, chapstick, wet wipes, jerky
4th gr- canned soup (small pop top cans), stick deodorant, toothbrush, dental floss
5th gr- microwave popcorn, canned fruit, sardines, candy
If you have the name of a soldier, friend, neighbor, or relative stationed anywhere in the world, we would like to have their names and addresses. We will make sure they get a box from Central wherever they are stationed by the holiday season this year. Please email Lisa Gonzalez at lgonzalez@valpo.k12.in.us on or before November 11, 2015 with this information.
Thanks so much to those families who have already brought in items. We appreciate your support!
Thanks for Supporting the Color Run!

1. Speak Up Survey
Valparaiso Community Schools is committed to providing a 21st Century education for your child and we are requesting your help. As we continue to integrate new and exciting technology into daily teaching and learning such as laptops, Chromebooks, iPads, online textbooks, student management systems such as Skyward, and learning management systems such as Canvas, we also need feedback from our stakeholders as to how effectively those items are working. We are asking our students, parents, and teachers to complete the survey below to provide us with feedback to help shape future decisions regarding technology implementation in our schools. Thank you in advance for your participation. Please complete the parent survey by November 30, 2015.
To access the survey, please use the link below. Search Central Elementary School by searching using zip code 46385 and selecting Central. You will then complete the parent survey portion. Your child will be completing the student survey at school.

What are Standards?
"Standards outline what students need to know, understand, and be able to do. Academic standards are benchmark measures that define what students should know and be able to do at specified grade levels beginning in kindergarten and progressing through grade twelve. The standards are promulgated as state regulations. As such, they must be used as the basis for curriculum and instruction in Indiana's accredited schools. Academic standards focus on what students will need to learn in order to be college and career ready and to be competitive in the job market." -Taken from the IDOE Parent Portal
