Thesis
The documentary "Undefeated" shows the lesson of despite all the hardships of playing football, you can still learn the life lesson of taking things for granted.
Purpose
The purpose of the documentary is to demonstrate how the hardships of football don't outweigh the lessons learned from it. Some lessons that can be exemplified are how taking things for granted can change your life when its stripped away and how if you work hard and strive for something you want, you will get the result you want. These lessons are showed through the life stories of both the coaches and the players.
Achieving the Purpose
Example 1: Coach Bill's Scarifies
Coach Bill is the highlight of the documentary, he sacrifices his family life, and his sanity for the chance he was to coach a football team to win their first playoff game. Through his sacrifices he also learns that he was blessed with a healthy family and he doesn't want to become like his father who left him so after the season finished, he quit coaching and returned to live with his family and became a full time dad.
Example 2: Money's Injury
In Undefeated, Money is a starting D-lineman who is undersized but has the heart to push through his disadvantages and show out. In the middle of his senior season, he experienced an injury that changed his life. Although he was able to finish his last game of his season, money and all his teammates learned how quickly your life can change and they appreciated the opportunities that were given to them.
Example 3: Chavis's Change
During the beginning of the documentary, a player named Chavis was a starting D-lineman who had an attitude. Throughout the documentary, his behaviors worsened and he was involved in several heated arguments and fights with his teammates which resulted in him getting suspended from playing for several games
Conclusion
In conclusion, the author's purpose for this documentary was to show the benefits to playing football and how it teaches life lessons that can be used through life. The coaches all have their own individual life stories that involved football changing their lives to become better people. But the coaches weren't the only people who's lives changed because of football, many other players also had their lives changed and learned different lessons. Football changes everyone's lives, it can turn the worst in humble men, but no matter who you are, football will teach you a life lesson.
