Making the Holidays Better for the Seniors in Our Community
Each year, Home Instead Senior Care partners with area nursing homes to identify seniors who might need a spirit lift through gifts this holiday season. This year 13 of John Adam's advisories adopted a senior. The students created messages of cheer and donated to provide items on the seniors wish lists. One student told the advisory teacher, "This is the best activity we've done all year!"
When your student is ill...
1. Severe colds, coughs, or sore throats
2. Eye infections, especially if discharge is present
3. New skin rashes, unless medical opinion states it is not contagious
4. Temperature of 100 degrees or more - with or without symptoms of an illness
*Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or abdominal pain
*Other signs of short term illness
*Until results of lab tests (throat culture, nasal swab, etc) are known
When will your student be sent home for illness?
1. A fever above 100 (even if fever with medication and it wears off during the day)
2. Vomiting and/or diarrhea
Students may return to school when:
1. They feel well enough to participate in normal school activities
2. Free of all symptoms for 24 hours (no vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain)
3. Temperature remains normal for 24 hours without use of medication
4. On prescribed antibiotics for at least 24 hours
5. Your health care provider says your child may return to school
We know that having a child home sick can be difficult. When they are allowed to stay home they will often get better more quickly and it will help stop the spread of the illness.
