Frequently Asked Questions?
A: At Odyssey Academy, you are provided with the autonomy to educate your children at home, maintaining the voice and choice in your child's education, while also receiving the support from a professionally licensed teacher and the financial resources to educate your children at home.
Q: Will my child have social interaction with other students?
A: Yes, we feel that continued social interaction is an integral component to a child's education. Students will meet via video conferencing (face-to-face) with their teachers and other peers in the class. Odyssey students will be involved in book clubs, small group work and class discussions via online platforms. Students will have the opportunity to be involved in field trips, clubs, organizations, classes and showcase events.
Q: What curriculum is available to Odyssey Academy students?
A: Odyssey Academy has an extensive list of approved curricula that we offer. These options will be made available to parents upon acceptance to the school. Parents will review the curricula choices prior to the ILP meeting and discuss the options that they feel will work best with their child(ren). If there is a curriculum that you would like to use with your child and it is not on the list, you can request it for review during the ILP process.
Q: My high school student would like to take Honors/AP courses, does Odyssey provide those?
A: Yes, Odyssey Academy provides a wide variety of online classes, to include core classes (Honors & Advanced Placement courses) and extensive options for electives.
Q: My child has taken courses at our local high school to meet the graduation requirements, how would a transfer affect the courses that they have taken or need to take in order to graduate at Odyssey Academy?
A: The graduation requirements differ slightly from district to district. Odyssey Academy students will follow the same graduation requirements as Ripon High School students. Course schedules will be designed for each student to reflect the courses needed to graduate. Because requirements are similar in districts, little or no changes will need to be made to their course plan. Please visit the Secondary Course Catalog on our website: www.odysseyacademyofvirtuallearning.com for more information.
