What Are We Learning?

Spelling/Word Study- Students bring new words home every other Monday. Therefore, tests will be every other Wednesday. This will give the students extra time to study harder words. If your child gets new words on Monday, he/she will not take the test that week. The test will be the following Wednesday.

Homework- Students bring home a reading log every Monday. These are due back to school on Friday morning (unless absent). They are only required to respond to their reading three times each week. Each student has a list of reading responses in their binder. Some of the responses are very quick and easy. However, I do expect them to use complete sentences, punctuation, and detail in their work.

Reading- Number the Stars--Students will also be working on their Author Fair projects. We are continuing research for the chosen author. Students have chosen a book written by their author and they will read it to complete a book talk. This will be due on the week that we go to 4H. There will be several items required for the book talk, but students will complete most of this at school. They will be bringing home a rubric when the due date is closer. Family members may help with presentation skills for practice.

Writing- Complete final draft of imaginative stories

Math- Students will complete equations to compare decimals and fractions. For instance, students will understand that 2.5 means the same as 2 and 5/10.
