From the Desk of the Nurse Reed:
End of Year Reminders & More
I can’t believe we are coming to the end of the year and what an AMAZING year it has been! I wanted to let you know of some things to remember over the summer to help get ready for next year!
ALL medication must be picked up by end of the day on June 4. If it is not picked it, it WILL be disposed of properly this includes prescription AND nonprescription medication you have brought in for your child. (Inhalers, Epi-Pens,Tylenol, Etc).
If your child will be taking medication with the school nurse next year, You must have a written order signed by their doctor for the new school year. (if i already have one, it will not work for next year) The links are below. All medications HAVE to have a doctor’s order. Over the summer when taking child for doctor visits, print and take a prescription sheet with you so the physician can sign it. It must have current dosage and medication for student. Also, when you bring in medication it must have the correct label on it.
If you have a 5th grader going into middle school, they will need updated vaccines for middle school by 7th grade. South Carolina law requires that all students entering 7th grade receive one (1) dose of Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis). All rising 7th graders must have proof of vaccination by the first day of school.
If your child has special dietary restrictions or has an allergy they must have a diet order in order to accommodate them here at school. If you already have one it is good for the lifetime of their school years. If you do not, there is link outside this letter and must be signed by a physician for dietary/anaphylactic allergy accommodations
Our snack policy for next year may be getting some big changes. We will either move to a no snack/cupcake/cookie policy or will have different guidelines. Please do NOT bring anything in until checking the student handbook or with me.
Summertime Tips
Summer is a great time to get out and enjoy the outdoors. It also a time for hot sun and dehydration. Please remember to apply sunscreen 15 minutes before any outside activity ( it takes that long to absorb) and reapply every 2 hours or if you are sweating and swimming apply immediately after. According to choc.org, your child should consume the equivalent of their age in 8 ounces glasses. (if your child is 5, they should have 5-8 ounces cups of water per day but no more than 64 ounces. )
Summer is also a great time to enjoy fresh fruits and veggies. Help teach your child the importance of healthy eating and consuming fruits and veggies everyday. Farmer’s markets are a great place to explore and support local business.
Thank you for all your cooperation! I really enjoyed my first year here and look forward to many more years!
