Titan Times
Eastlake High School 3.2.20
Greetings from Eastlake High School
Welcome to the March edition of the Titan Times. We have so much to cover as we come to the conclusion of the 2019-2020 year. As students start to prepare for testing, graduation, course selection and school activities, let's make sure our students are putting balance and self-care into big picture!
Last week, our board announced a plan to address the budget. I know out staff and students are concerned about how our school will be affected. I am doing the best to be pro-active in allocating resources/securing different funding sources to best serve the needs of our community. I will do my best to explain the budget concerns to the students. I will also discuss it at Coffee with the Principal this week.
As always, there is a lot happening at our school. Keep informed with the WAAG link and follow up with your counselors and teachers! Stay connected and let me know how I can be of service.
Here are some big picture items for your consideration:
A. Drop-off Zone. The new drop-off zone is ready to use. We will have additional support to help coordinate the first week. Please do your best to use the drop-off zone and not the front of the school if you are heading southbound on Eastlake Parkway. This will help with traffic flow.
B. Coffee with the Principal. I hope to see you this Wednesday at 8:15 in the library. We have a special guest. Mr. David Delacalzada from Information Technology will be here to talk about privacy and technology concerns. We will have our first discussion of the Eastlake Education Foundation (Titan Foundation and Alumni Association) and our plan for supporting academics, athletics and the arts. I hope you will join us!!
C. Attendance. It is critical that students and parents understand that all absences must be cleared in a timely fashion. Please speak with Mrs. Stroberg if you require additional information. Students who have excess absences may be placed on an attendance contract and placed on a non-privilege list.
D. Titan Showcase. On March 19th, Eastlake High School will open its doors to a great event highlighting many of the classroom projects and college/career connections happening across the school. It will also be a fun community event. Please be on the lookout for additional information coming your way soon.
E. Student Protest. Due to the budget cuts, students are planning a staged walk-out on March 2nd from 11:30 to 12:00. We are not allowed to endorse this activity and students will have to weigh out the consequences with attendance and academic issues. We will do everything to keep students safe who choose to protest. I do appreciate student voice and I know they are interested in supporting our staff.
F. Principal's Honor Roll. Students have been aware of the Honor Roll requirements for sometime now. We have also spoken with the Seniors. To graduate in white, they must be on track at this point. Unfortunately, there will be no appeals if you do not meet the requirements. We understand the frustration, but please know that we are trying to be fair. Please contact me if you have any questions.
G. NMSI! if your student is taking certain AP classes, please make sure you check in about services for support offered by NMSI. Here is the link from our website. Please contact Mrs. Bielma with any questions.
H. Office Hours. In order to better serve you, I am going to honor my time with individuals with more organized meeting times. I have kept an open door policy, but have found that parents and community members are not always served to the best of my ability due to my busy schedule. My administrative assistant has blocked out 8:00 - 10:00 AM Monday through Thursday for individual 20-30 minute meetings. I can also be found before school starting at 7:30 for a quick meeting. Of course, emergencies and other issues can dictate for other meeting times. I will do my best to accommodate you. Ms. Campos can be reached at karina.campos@sweetwaterschools.org or 619-397-3815.
Thank you for your support of all things Eastlake High School. If you have a moment, take the time to recognize our staff below! As always, Go Titans!
