Congratulations 8th-Grade!

Crossing the Creek to 9th Grade

On Friday, May 28, 2021, the 8th-grade students crossed the creek as they became 9th-graders! They were presented graduation awards by Mrs. Parker and Ms. Stephenson. After the awards were given, they were escorted by their teachers into CHS to begin the scheduling process for next year. These students have worked hard to make passing grades in a year full of unknowns. Our hats are off to you, Class of 2025!

"Thank you for giving us the privilege to teach you and help you grow over the past four years."

CMS will have summer school for all students who received an application. It will begin on Monday, June 14, and it will end on Friday, July 2. Students will report at 7:30 A.M. and finish at 12:30 P.M. each day. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

CMS College and Career Week

We have a bright future ahead!

CMS participated in College and Career Week the week of May 10-14. Teachers and staff decorated their classroom doors to show students what colleges they graduated from and discussed how they have come to work where they are today. Congratulations to Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Pippen, and Mrs. Hogue for being the top door winners.

8th-Graders took part in Zoom sessions to gain knowledge in possible career paths on Tuesday of that week. During activity class each morning, all CMS students engaged in activities that allowed them to begin thinking about different colleges and career paths by watching videos and taking notes on their favorite highlights and interests. It is never too early to begin planning for the future!

5th Grade

Book Cover Project

After reading Richard Peck's The River Between Us and learning about the boys and families of the Civil War, the 5th-grade students had the opportunity to create a book cover for a possible sequel to the novel. The students had to decide which way they would take the story, and they were to be named the author and illustrator of their book. They examined book covers that included blurbs and quotes on the back covers and then created their own. They worked diligently to complete this task!

"The students did a wonderful job on this project. They were so excited about their ideas while they brought them to life in these covers." - Mrs. Hamilton, 5th-Grade Literacy

CMS Band

Spring Band Concert

The CMS 6th-grade Beginner Band and 7th/8th-Grade Band participated in the Spring Band Concert at the CHS auditorium on May 13th. After having such a different year for band and performances, they really showed the audience how well they have been working. The choice in selection was truly inspirational. Way to go band!

"I was happy with our results Thursday night, and I look forward to working with these students next year." - Mr. McLaren
