Captain's Log
Here is a recap of a few recent announcements from Dr. Steidinger:
Officer Patel
We are fortunate that our Apex Police Department, with the support of the Apex Town Council's funding, is providing a school resource officer for the elementary schools in Apex. The Town of Apex is committed to creating positive relations with the Apex Police Department and believes that the presence of an officer at schools contributes to building these positive relationships. They are excited to announce the selection of Officer Krunal Patel as a new elementary school resource officer. Officer Patel has a passion for youth and will be a great asset to our school. Officer Patel’s role in the school will be to engage the students in a positive atmosphere, work in partnership with the staff on school issues, be active in a participating in school program, facilitate campaigns for things like anti-bullying and be a resource for parents. Officer Patel will spend one day a week at each elementary school in the Apex area. Please say hello when you see him at OCE.
Welcome Our New Head Custodian, Mr. Derr
As you know, Ruth Hall, our previous head custodian retired. While we cannot replace Ms. Hall, we have been very fortunate in securing a wonderful new head custodian, Mr. Ryan Derr. Mr. Derr comes to us from Lee County. He is the father of two daughters and has already made his mark here at Olive Chapel.
Transportation
Keep up the great work on staggered pick-up times at dismissal! We appreciate your cooperation and assistance with this issue.
Parent Survey
As a follow-up to the Panorama Parent survey sent to you by Wake County in the spring, we'd like to find out more about how we can do a better job of being a welcoming and engaging place for all students and families. Your participation in this survey is very much appreciated and your opinions are valued. Please click here to provide your feedback.
Thank you!

TREASURE CHEST
Book Fair - Open Until Monday at Noon
Our Enchanted Forest Fall Book Fair has nearly reached its Happily Ever After!
NOTE: Due to school being closed on Thursday and Friday, the Book Fair will be open until noon on Monday, September 17th. We will also need some extra hands to pack up the book fair Monday afternoon. Please check the sign-up here if you can help.
If you did miss something, were not able to find what you wanted at the fair, or are unable to shop on Monday, our online sales will continue for another week. Shop using this link until September 24th. Online orders will be delivered for free to the school after the fair has ended.
The PTA and Book Fair committee would like to send a great big thank you to all of the parents who came in to volunteer throughout the duration of the Fair. We couldn't have done it without your help!
We would also like to thank the teachers who made the time to bring their classes in to preview and purchase at the fair. The total amount of sales will be added up and about 50% of it will be added to our account so that Ms. Lanier can purchase new books for our school library.
We also wanted to let our school community know that Publix donated the plastic bags used at our Book Fair. We are thankful for their support of our Book Fair and throughout the year. A special thank you also to the OCE family who donated reusable bags which we used during the Grandparents' breakfast.
Thank you, thank you! We hope you and your children enjoy all the great books purchased during the fair. See you again in the Spring!
Cici's Spirit Night: 9/19 & 9/20
Cici's will be donating a portion of the proceeds of OCE meals to the school! A flyer will be sent home with your students that must be presented at the time of purchase.
