MHS Principal's Update
October 17, 2021
End of Quarter 1
Quarter 1 came to an end on Friday, and fall parent-teacher conferences are right around the corner. For those families new to MHS, our quarter grades work a little differently than they did in middle school. Rather than being a "final" grade, high school quarter grades are really more like a half-way progress report for the semester. Grades will continue to accrue throughout second quarter, so as you look in Skyward at student progress, your student's most current grade will be reflected in the SEMESTER grade column. Instead of thinking of the semester grade as a 50/50 split of the two quarter grades, think of the quarter grade as a snapshot in time. If you're unclear on this grading, feel free to reach out to any teacher or counselor for more help.
Conferences are next week on Thursday and Friday. You may sign up for specific time slots through your Skyward Family Access by clicking on the blue Conferences tab on the left. Then click "All Conferences" and select a time for the teacher or teachers you would like to see. Students are always encouraged to join the conversation, so all parties hear the same information together. Drop in conferences are also welcome.
Pro Tip: Even though the district calendar says Thursday, October 21 is a full day of school, STUDENTS only attend for a half day. The other half is only for teacher (or parent-teacher) attendance for conferences. So, MHS will release at 11:10 on Thursday, October 21.
Hope you have a safe, fun weekend,

Mask Supplies
Please make sure your student comes to school with an appropriate mask to wear. Although the district does have spare masks for occasional needs, we have MANY students who come to school every day with the expectation of getting a school-supplied mask. Our supplies cannot manage this volume, so PLEASE have students come prepared!
In addition, extra reinforcement for appropriate mask-wearing while in the school building would be much appreciated. We need all students to wear their masks over nose and mouth for the duration of their time in the building, with the exception of while seated for eating. Your added support would help us reinforce the message they get here at school.
