Meet Angela Mendez
Angela is the Committee Coordinator at the West End Museum for the last year and a half. She is originally from Venezuela and came to the U.S. 8 years ago to work on her masters degree.
She lives in Watertown but enjoys traveling to the West End to generously volunteer, as do 40 others, at the West End Museum. Her wish for our neighborhood is for everyone to not only know the West End Museum, but to see it as a place to attend events, stop in to see the exhibits and see that it is not only a museum but a space for the neighborhood.
One thing that you might be surprised to learn about her is that while she and her husband are both from Venezuela, they met here in the US.
So, stop in the West End Museum to see the history of our neighborhood, the new exhibit by Lolita Parker Jr., and meet Angela Mendez!
Meet Tatiana Mercado
Tatiana's early childhood was spent in the West End, and even though she has moved, she feels like it is her second home. Her favorite part of the West End is the neighborhood diversity. She says that the West End is its own "melting pot" of ethnicities, backgrounds and more, but hopes that our community can come together for fun, exciting events on a regular basis to reinforce the familial atmosphere that she grew to love.
Tatiana has been involved with the West End Children's Festival since 2010, starting as a volunteer coordinator, and has been the director for the 6th, 7th and 8th year. She looks forward to returning to head the 10th year! She has big things planned, so mark the date on your calendar, Saturday, August 15th, 2015!
One thing you might not know about her is that her senior year in college, she wrote two 300 page fiction novels. We'll have to check the shelves for her writing in the future!
