Centennial's Newsday Tuesday
Centennial Elementary Families' Weekly Newsletter 10/19/2021
A Note from the Principal
We hope that you each enjoyed a restful, relaxing and memory-filled Fall Break!
While your students were home on Monday, our Centennial Staff participated in several professional learning opportunities to keep us in tip-top shape to support and grow your wonderful children!
This week begins our second quarter of the school year. At this point, we see that student learning is in full effect and that our classroom and school-wide routines are effectively in place.
On another fun note, we hope that you'll participate in our first "Trunk or Treat" next Thursday,
October 28, from 5:30-6:30. For more information, please see our PTO information below.
With appreciation and kind regards,
Ellie Webb, Principal

The School Counselors' Corner! From Anna Robbins & MarRissa Turnbow
“No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face.” - John Donne
Autumn is finally arriving and this quote spoke to me as an educator and a mom. Fall is a favorite for our family, but as students, parents, and educators, we are beginning to “fall” into a routine we intend to maintain for the remainder of the school year. Yet, if we are being honest, we are all starting to feel the pressure of just what that entails. What we knew as “normal” hasn’t returned and we are continuing to be challenged in our approach. What’s incredible is that we are all dedicated to the same goal: Giving our kiddos the best education possible. Our teachers do a phenomenal job of that, and our job as counselors is to partner with our teachers and you to provide social and emotional support while we continue to acclimate to our current normal. The graphic below has been shared all over social media, and even in a recent professional development meeting I attended. I take time to focus on this perspective this month because I believe it is so important to understand as a community that our kiddos, especially our littles (K-2), have yet to experience what we previously knew as a “normal” year. It will take patience and grace as our students reacclimate to being in school every day with a full classroom again. Building classroom stamina and structure is a process, but our Centennial teachers are rocking it! As we move into the final weeks of the first quarter and begin the next, give grace to others and yourself.
At Home: Take time to practice intervals of focused time with your child without a screen. Start with their age (in minutes) then gradually add a minute at a time to strengthen their endurance.
Centennial families, how well do you know Anna Robbins, our full-time counselor for students in grades 3-5? Please click here or on the link below this box to watch Anna's FlipGrid introduction and get to know Anna better!

In Case of Absence
Families, did you know that you may call 405-726-4699 any time to leave a message regarding your student's need to be absent or tardy? We encourage this so the phone lines aren’t tied up in the morning during AM drop off. If a family accidentally forgets to call on when a student is absent, an automated call goes out at 10:30 to families who have not yet reported their child is absent as a reminder. Thank you!
