Bulding a House

Mr. and Mrs. ¨ ¨... when we are bulding your house, there are many boundaries we can build on. 1st, there is convergent, this one would make folded mountains and could tilt your house. 2nd there is divergant, this could make rift valleys, like the icelandic and african rift valley. 3rd we have transform, this one would constantly make earthquakes and faultlines, just like the san andras fault. and finally we have convergent with subduction, this would make many volcanos and mountains just like the ring of fire.

Personally i would choose divergant because the only thing that could happen to your house was if it moved less than an inch to the right every year

Convection currents

The mantle is made of much denser, thicker material, because of this the plates ¨float¨ on it like oil floats on water.
Many geologists believe that the mantle ¨flows¨ because of convection currents. Convection currents are caused by the very hot material at the deepest part of the mantle rising, then cooling, sinking again and then heating, rising and repeating the cycle over and over. ¨The next time you heat anything like soup or pudding in a pan you can watch the convection currents move in the liquid. When the convection currents flow in the mantle they also move the crust. The crust gets a free ride with these currents. A conveyor belt in a factory moves boxess like the convection currents in the mantle moves the plates of the Earth.¨

What the currents make are depended on the type of plate it is. If you had convergent w/ subduction (Ocean) it would create trenches like the iceland arks and the marina trench. But is it was (land) it would create under water volcanos and mts. its diffrent because the water is very heavy and pushes down more if there is more water.

Earths Diffrences

The surface of the earth is broken into seven large, and many smaller, moving plates -- all of which ride on the asthenosphere. Each plate is approximately 50 miles thick and moves anywhere from 1/2 inch to several inches per year. As plates move, they collide or separate or move over one another.

Alfred Wegener was the scientist who championed the Continental Drift Theory through the first few decades of the twentieth century. Simply put, his hypothesis proposed that the continents had once been joined, and over time had drifted apart. The jigsaw fit that the continents make with each other can be seen by looking at any world map.

Why do we call earth an active plannet?

We call earth an ¨active¨ in the sense that it has earthquakes and volcanoes, which are the result of liquid interior layers where convection currents affect the outer crust. Not all planets are like that.
