Songfest: A Culmination of the Students’ Musical Studies This Year.

This Friday, Upper Elementary students will join Lower Elementary students to sing songs in several different languages reflecting Lower Elementary’ s study of Europe and Upper Elementary’ s study of early civilization. How do the musical selections reflect your studies of early civilizations.

Upper Elementary parent representatives are organizing a community potluck breakfast just before the Songfest. This is another great opportunity to mix and mingle with Barrie teachers, staff, parents and children.

The program begins at 9:30 in Safer Theater. Parents are welcome to join us!

Coded Messaging

Thank you to Melvin Cooperman, Abby's Grandfather, for teaching the students about coded messaging last Tuesday. The students were enthralled, as they gained more knowledge of the importance of communication.

Winter Break Daily Work

Over the break, we suggest each student:

1. Read for 20 minutes each day

2. Complete one standard for their grade level IXL Math work.

Homework over the break will be posted by this Friday, and is due on Monday January 4, 2016.

The class does have IXL math, reading, and a writing prompt this week which should be completed by Monday, December 20.

Annual Thanksgiving Basket Food Drive Extended Through December 17

Shepherd’s Table, Silver Springs provides a range of services for those in need within the Silver Spring community. Barrie Montessori Upper Elementary facilitates the annual food drive contributing to the distribution of Holiday baskets to local families. We invite all Barrie students, families and faculty to bring non-perishable food items to school throughout this week and by 5:00pm December 17. Collection boxes will be placed at the entrance to the Montessori Office, Upper Elementary Building, and Prep Commons. We encourage families to donate items as they can, one can or one case, of the items you would like to contribute to this year’s Shepherd’s Table Food Pantry.

Holiday Gift Exchange

Upper Elementary will be having a holiday gift exchange this Thursday. We have asked the children to bring a gift to school on Thursday suitable for an Upper Elementary student. Each purchase should not be more than a $10 gift. And please make sure the students wrap the gift before bringing it to school.
