The Week of September 14th - 18th

Student Drop-Off

Now that we have our first week with 100% of our face-to-face students back under our belt, we want to let you know that we are constantly thinking of ways to improve our procedures. We know there were back ups, especially at Ling, but we are hoping that we can move cars through faster moving into the next week. If you choose to park your vehicle instead of using the drop-off lane, please remember to walk your child up to the sidewalk. We appreciate your courtesy and patience with staff as we work through these procedures together.

As always, thank you for all your support!

Mask-Up Huskies

Please make sure your child is arriving to school with a mask. If they are a bus rider, please double-check that he/she has a mask before boarding the school bus. All students should have received a Hemlock Huskie mask. If your child did not receive one, please contact your child's teacher and they will send one home. *Students do not need to wear a mask in the classroom, but they will wear them in the hallway if they have to leave the classroom for any reason.

A message from our PTO....

Join us for our first PTO meeting of the school year on September 17th, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. under the Ling Elementary pavilion (near the tennis courts). This will be a short informative meeting to talk about the Hemlock/Ling Elementary PTO moving forward. We are currently looking for parents to join the PTO board. There are 6 positions currently open. This year may look a bit different, but we are ready to support our schools as needed.

Important Changes to Food Service

Every student enrolled in both virtual and face-to-face learning will now enjoy FREE breakfast and lunch regardless of income. Please remember to still fill out and turn in the free/reduced meal applications that were in the welcome back packets. These apps are also located in all school offices or online at Other district programs such as, Title 1 and 31A, are in association with meal benefits so this is very important to do.

Our menus are found online at and paper copies are available in all school offices. You can find the online menus under the dining icon for each building site.

The Elementary and Ling students that are on campus choose whether they want a lunch and breakfast daily on a live Google document every morning with their teacher. At this time they also have the option to let their teacher know if they want to take home a breakfast and lunch for their virtual day. We then pass those meals out at the end of the day for them to take home. Middle and High School students come down to the cafeteria daily to get their meals. They also let their homeroom teacher know if they want to pick up meals at the end of the day for their remote learning.

Virtual students now have this option for their remote learning: Call (989)642-4700 or email by 9:00am on Wednesdays. Pick up for virtual meals will be Thursdays from 2:45pm-4:00pm. These meals will be distributed at Hemlock Middle School at door #29 in the side parking lot. When requesting meals please leave your last name and how many students you have in your household so when you pull up we will have your meals ready and labeled.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at: or call (989)642-4700.

What's for Lunch?

Wondering what's for lunch? You can find it on our app. Copies of each building's lunch menu are listed in the District's Document section. See the picture below for easy to follow steps.

**MUST be in the District building (top right corner in the app), do not select the specific school.

Big picture

NWEA Testing

Over the course of the next three weeks, all of our students will be participating in NWEA testing. The results of these tests allow us to provide instruction that is tailored to student achievement data. These test results also help us measure your student’s academic growth throughout the school year as they are administered three times each year (Fall, Winter, Spring). If you have opted for the virtual-only option for the beginning of the school year, the classroom teacher will be contacting you to schedule a testing time for your child to be assessed.

If you have any questions or would like more information about the NWEA tests, please feel free to contact Mrs. Gensch.
