Google Lit Trips
Google Lit Trips provides excellent models for using Google Earth in language arts or history lessons. The concept of Google Lit Trips is to help students gain a better understanding of stories and their authors through mapping. Students and teachers can use Google Earth to map a story or map a biography of an author. On Google Lit Trips you can find and download lessons and Google Earth files created by other teachers.

Apps of the Week
SolarWalk
Sphere
Sphere (formerly known as TourWrist) is an exciting way to bring the world back to your students. This app allows users to take a 360-degree panoramic photograph using an iPad or iPhone. Not only can you view user-uploaded pictures of the Washington Monument or Lincoln Memorial, but it's also a great way to document your own travels and share with students. Children can stand holding their iPad screen in front of them and turn to see the sights!
Write About This
Write About This is a great app for writing and storytelling. This app is filled with images and prompts to inspire kids to write. Every aspect is designed with kids in mind, from the easy-to-navigate icons to the kid-friendly privacy policy. Prompts and images are appropriate for all ages, with increasing depth and complexity at higher level. Additionally, kids or parents can create new prompts using their own images and ideas. Work is composed and saved within the app; kids can share their compositions via email.

Twitter Chat of the Month
Participating in Twitter chats is a great way to build up your PLN (Professional Learning Network). Create an account and start building! The chat I am highlighting this month can be found under #titletalk. . On the last Sunday of each month, teachers, librarians and book lovers gather for #titletalk at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. At the time and date, go to Twitter and search for #titletalk. A topic announced at the beginning of the hour guides all participating. Find new titles in each session that you can bring to your classroom or library. The fun part, though, is developing virtual friendships with folks from all over the globe.
