A GOOD DAY STARTS WITH A GOOD BREAKFAST!
According to Breakfast Clubs of Canada, "When children get a balanced meal in a positive, stimulating environment, there are marked improvements in behavior and concentration, academic performance, social skills, self-confidence, overall interest in subjects taught, and incidents of bullying."
Our program relies heavily on the generosity of community donors.
Monetary donations are accepted at the school office.
Lucy the Service Dog!
St Patrick School is very excited to announce a new opportunity at our school. We
have been asked if we would be willing to have "Lucy" join our team!
Lucy is certified as a "Dogs with Wings" dog. She has worked with the Camrose Police Service for 8 years, as part of the Victims Service Unit.. She has retired from her work with the Camrose Police Service so is now pursuing her passion of being with kids in the role of a Therapy Dog in a school setting. She's highly trained to provide comfort and support in many different areas. She has lots of experience in schools, and has been in our EICS Schools at different times over the years. Lucy comes highly recommended by our School Resource Officer- Constable Fernhout.
Research into the effects of therapy dogs in schools is showing a range of benefits including:
increase in school attendance
gains in confidence
supports social skills
decreases in learner anxiety behaviours resulting in improved learning outcomes
enhanced relationships with peers and teachers due to experiencing trust and unconditional love from a therapy dog.
The safety, health, and security of all of our students is at the utmost importance with having Lucy join our school team. Lucy will be wearing her "service dog vest" while at the school. To start with, Lucy will be at the school for 1-2 days a week and will be in the “Family Wellness Worker” office until we are confident that all students are comfortable with Lucy being at the school.
We are very excited to see the benefits of this at our school. Should you have any further questions or concerns please contact myself at the school. Also, if you are interested in meeting Lucy please let me know and we can set up an appointment.
Kind regards,
Laurie Kushnerick
