COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TESTS: ACT and SAT
General Information
Please be reminded that it is the responsibility of the student/parent to register for the ACT and SAT tests. The C&A staff can answer questions at any time. Log on to sat.org/register or www.actstudent.org to register.
- The ACT / SAT are college admissions tests & aid institutions in determining a student’s potential for success in college. (Students planning on attending a 2-year or technical college generally do NOT need to take either test.) Colleges/universities in S.C. accept both ACT and/or SAT scores. Students should refer to the admission requirements for each institution they plan to attend.
- If you plan to take the ACT, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you take the writing component at least once. It is not so necessary on subsequent retakes.
- If you are a special needs student and would like to request testing accommodations for the ACT or SAT, it is your responsibility to initiate the process by discussing the procedure with your counselor. The process is very time-consuming (minimum 6 – 8 weeks). Each testing agency (College Board / ACT) has its own application for accommodations.
VERY IMPORTANT! Please make sure that you fill in the school code for River Bluff High School when registering for the ACT/SAT. If you fail to do this, our school will NOT receive your scores. The school testing code is 411292.

Seniors are given TWO excused absences for College Days. In order to have the absences excused, it will be necessary to turn in a note on college letterhead with the student's name and date of the visit. This should be turned in to Mrs. Wood in Attendance.
WATCH your ATTENDANCE – remember that absences count for each class -- a maximum of 10 days for a full year class, 5 days for a ½ year class.
- You’ll receive “FA” (Failure due to Absences) for classes with excessive absences

Anne and Ed Pitts Memorial Scholarship Application
Did you attend Anne Pitts Child Development Center for a least two years? If so, this is the scholarship for you!
This Scholarship is available for graduating seniors pursuing a post secondary education who attended Anne Pitts Child Development Center for at least two years. Applicants will be judged on character, sincerity of purpose, achievement, and academics. This is a "one time only" scholarship. The number of applicants will determine the amount of the scholarship.
Deadline is April 1, 2020. Applications should be returned to Mrs. Farrar in the Counseling and Advisement office or mailed to P O Box 2021, Lexington, SC 29071. Click here for an application.
April Lynn Quinton Memorial Scholarship-$1,000
This scholarship was established in loving memory of April Quinton who died from a single car
accident in October 2009. April was a graduate with honors from Lexington High School in
1998 where she served as Wing Commander of the JROTC. She resided in Lexington County
most of her life and considered herself a lifelong resident of Lexington County.
This scholarship is available for a Lexington County School District One high school senior planning to attend a South Carolina college or university and major in Special Education.
Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and a SAT score of at least 1100 or
an ACT score of 22.
General Rules:
• Applicants will be judged on character, sincerity of purpose, and potential.
• The scholarship is issued “one time only” and is not renewable.
• The winner will be announced at the school’s Award Program.
• The scholarship award will be paid jointly to the student and the institution of higher learning.
•Applications will be accepted from all five high schools with only one scholarship winner

BigSun Scholarship - $500
Please send us a short essay (500 - 1,000 words) answering the following questions:

Carolina Children's Home Scholarship
Charleston Women in International Trade Technical Scholarship
CWIT (Charleston Women in International Trade) gives approx. $10,000 scholarships out a year for high school, college and technical students who major in international trade or corresponding majors. Applicants must be enrolled/enrolling in an accredited South Carolina school, institution, college or university and must provide proof of acceptance or current enrollment.
· Applicant must be well qualified, with a serious interest in pursuing a degree specific to international trade or related course of study.
· Applicant needs not be a full-time student.
· Females and males are invited to apply.
· Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
Essay. Applicant must provide a 1 - 3 page, double-spaced essay on this topic:
Explain the value of skilled labor to the international trade community of South Carolina and why you chose technical college to further your education.
The essay is weighted 50% of the total score; scoring will focus on content, responsiveness to the topic, analytical capability, originality, grammar, spelling, and neatness.

Chi Iota Iota Chapter Omega PSI PHI Fraternity Scholarship- Male only
THIS ATTACHED SCHOLARSHIP IS FOR MALE APPLICANTS ONLY
The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is an international historically African-American Greek-letter fraternity founded on November 17, 1911 at Howard University. Omega Psi Phi is the first predominantly African-American fraternity to be founded at a historically black college/university. The fraternity was founded on the four Cardinal Principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift.
The Chi Iota Iota Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is proud to announce its 2020 Scholarship application. We are offering $2000 and $1000 scholarships with an overall goal of awarding over $14,000 in scholarships to deserving students this year.
In addition to other requirements, write a essay between 500 and 750 words on the topic: "How can we combat, prevent and/or reduce prejudice, discrimination and violence in a new, more diverse America?"

Clemson Club Scholarship
Clemson Club Scholarship- $4,500
Must be a senior who has been accepted to Clemson University and plans to attend in the fall. Bridge program students are not eligible.
Award amount is $4,500. Applications may be picked up from Mrs. Farrar in the Counseling and Advisement office. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Financial information is requested as need may be a deciding factor in awarding the scholarship.
The scholarship committee will review and select semi-finalists. The semi-finalists will be notified of their status by club members and scheduled for a personal interview the evening of Monday March 30. Deadline is March 6, 2020.
College Board Opportunity Scholarships (CBOS)
For the Class of 2020
February is the final month for the class of 2020 to participate in the program. The following scholarships are currently open for the class of 2020:
• Complete the FAFSA®—100 students can earn a chance at $1,000 for completing the FAFSA. Students who are ineligible to complete the FAFSA can still earn a chance at the scholarship by going to their My Action Plan page. • Apply to Colleges—500 students can earn a chance at $1,000 for applying to two or more colleges. Students can earn an additional entry for each additional college that they apply to up to a total of six colleges. • Complete Your Journey—25 students can earn a chance at a $40,000 scholarship when they’ve earned entries for and completed all six action steps in the program.
Scholarships for students in the Class of 2020 are awarded monthly through February 2020 (see attachment). South Carolina Education Association-Retired **Education Majors**
The annual amount of the scholarship is $1,000. Five hundred ($500) dollars per semester will be paid to a South Carolina four year college or university for the recipient. The scholarship will be awarded for four consecutive years unless the recipient completes graduation requirements early, decides not to pursue a career in education, or fails to maintain a 3.0 grade point average. This scholarship may be used for room, board, tuition and/or books only. If the money is not needed, the funds shall be returned to the SCEA-Retired.
Eligibility:
- The applicant must be a senior graduating from a public high school in South Carolina.
- The applicant must plan to attend an accredited four year college or university within the state of South Carolina as a full time student.
- The applicant must plan for and pursue a career in education.
- The applicant must have maintained a good high school academic record and maintain a 3.0 GPA while attending a South Carolina college or university .
- The applicant must demonstrate leadership abilities.
- The applicant must need financial assistance.

South Carolina Federal Credit Union Scholarship
South Carolina Federal Credit Union is awarding a total of $50,000 to 12 deserving students. We are looking for hardworking and dedicated students in South Carolina planning to pursue a post-secondary degree in fall 2020.

Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund-Military
The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to the dependent children of U.S. military personnel who have been killed or permanently disabled as a result of an operational mission or training accident, or a U.S. military personnel who is classified as a prisoner of war (POW) or missing in action (MIA). You must also maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and be enrolled full time to remain on scholarship and to be eligible to renew your scholarship.
"Here Today" Music Scholarship
Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship
A one-time $2,500 award is given to three students who are in financial need and who have been accepted or is currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. A letter of acceptance into a nursing program or a transcript stating the applicant is in a nursing program must be included with the application. Deadline is February 15th, 2020.

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship - $2,500
This scholarship fund is named in honor of Janice Marie Scott. This scholarship fund was established to recognize her involvement with various youth programs and community service activities within the Greater Metropolitan Area of Washington, DC. Janice was one of 125 individuals that perished in the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 when terrorists hijacked and crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the building of the Pentagon.
Requirements include:
a. US Citizen or permanent resident of US
b. GPA of 3.0/equivalent or higher (out of a 4.0 scale)
c. High School Senior who will matriculate full-time at a US accredited four-year college or university within the fifty states or District of Columbia.
d. Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community services or other extra curricular activities.
e. Combined adjusted income of the parent(s) cannot exceed $50,000.

2020 Journalism Contest
Your article must address the theme: “The Right Talent, Right Now.” It should emphasize the essential role that people with disabilities play in America’s economic success, especially in an era when historically low unemployment and global competition are creating a high demand for skilled talent.
The Justin Thomas Gustav Pepper Memorial Scholarship-$1,000
This volunteer based scholarship is now open to seniors in ALL Lexington County District High Schools to assist with furthering their education. The scholarship, which is focused on volunteer activities, will reward recipients with $1000 in assistance for furthering their education beyond high school. It is paid in two $500 installments at the beginning of their first and second semesters of college, tech school, or any other higher education institution. Applications may be obtained through the guidance counselor's offices of the Lexington District High Schools and Newberry County High Schools after January 15th and must be returned by March 15th. Carrie Mayer-Cowan & Benjamin Mayer Memorial Scholarship II
This scholarship was established in loving memory of Carrie Mayer-Cowan and Benjamin
Mayer. Carrie was a 1994 Honor Graduate of Lexington High School and Benjamin was a
2000 Honor Graduate of Lexington High School.
Who is eligible for this scholarship?
The $1,000.00 scholarship is available for a White Knoll, Gilbert, Pelion or River Bluff High
School graduating senior.
Applicants must have a 3.5 grade point average and an 1150 SAT or 24 ACT.
This scholarship is for a student pursuing a degree in science education or engineering at a four
year college or university in South Carolina.
Lexington District One Educational Foundation Scholarships
Lexington District One Office Professionals Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship is provided by the Lexington District One Educational Office Professionals Organization and will be awarded to a current Lexington School District One student meeting the following qualifications: -Is a graduating senior who plans to attend an accredited two or four year institution in the fall term following the awarding of the scholarship -Is pursuing a degree in a Business program (Computer Science, Advertising, Marketing, Accounting, etc.). -Has maintained a 3.0 GPA in high school -Is a United States citizen and a resident of South Carolina -Demonstrates through grades, character, and commitment a potential success as a business professional. Lexington Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary Nursing Scholarship-$3,000- $2,000-$1,000
Medhurst, Norton and Telfer Scholarships $2,000 Each
Awarded to high school seniors living in Lexington County and plan to earn a Bachelors Degree in Nursing.

Ann Wingate Scholarships $1,000 Each
Awarded to high school seniors living in Lexington County and plan to earn an Associates Degree in Nursing.

- Two letters of recommendation
- Essay
- Official high school transcript (with GPA, class rank and SAT or ACT scores)
- Letter of acceptance into nursing school required
Auxiliary Volunteers Memorial Scholarship $3,000
One scholarship will be awarded each year. No separate application is needed. The scholarship committee will select the recipient from the applications to the different scholarships.

Lexington Soil & Water Conservation Scholarship - $1,500
Eligibility: Current High School senior residing in Lexington County who will be attending a South Carolina College, University or Technical College. The applicant must be planning a major in an Agricultural and Environmental related field.

Lexington Woman's Club Scholarship-Education
The Lexington Woman’s Club is sponsoring a scholarship for a Lexington High School, River Bluff High School, White Knoll High School, Gilbert High School, or Pelion High School graduating senior (male or female) entering the field of education upon completion of his or her post-secondary degree. The scholarship check will be made payable to the student and college/university.
The criteria for selection include:
Financial need
Academic achievement
Service to community
Leadership ability
You will need to turn in the following to your Counselor (in this order, please):
Completed application form (Make sure your counselor has completed and signed his/her part of the form, and don’t forget to sign it yourself!)
A brief essay explaining why you feel you deserve this scholarship, what it means to you, and any other information you would like to have considered in awarding this scholarship
One recommendation from a teacher (form attached)

Richland County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc
The Richland County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is pleased to announce its 2020 Scholarship Program. This year our chapter will award fifteen (15) scholarships in the amount of $1,250 each to graduating seniors in Richland, Lexington, Newberry and Fairfield school districts.
All applications will be screened based on financial need, GPA, SAT/ACT scores, the essay, recommendation forms, leadership/extra-curricular activities, class rank and honors/awards.

Write an essay (500 words or less) on how your education will enable you to "do more together" for others.
Prepare the following items:
- Contact information for a reference (teacher or counselor at your current school) – first name, last name, and email address.
- The form is contained within the scholarship application and will ask the applicant to provide the contact information for a recommender. The recommender will then go into the system and evaluate the applicant.
- The recommender's evaluation and comments will remain confidential, and will not be shared with the applicant.

South Carolina State Fair Scholarships
Calling All High School Seniors! The South Carolina State Fair proudly supports college education across the state of South Carolina with its Ride of Your Life Scholarship. High school seniors are encouraged to apply for our scholarship which would allow them $6,000 towards their college career!
Take an opportunity to lessen the burden and stress of paying for a college education and apply for our scholarship today! Applications opened February 1st and close March 15th!
Scholarships for Military Children
A total of 500 scholarship grants, each for $2,000, will be awarded for school year 2020-21. There will be at least one recipient selected at every commissary location where qualified applications are received, and additional recipients will be selected based on a prorate basis, so more applicants will be selected from those commissaries with larger numbers of applicants.

Our members at our community have built and continue to build their legacies. They are all inspirational in their own way. Right now, you are nearing your high school graduation and preparing for your future. What do you want your legacy to be? What do you want to have accomplished? What are your goals in life? What is your definition of living a good life?
Essays must be the applicant's original work and be between 600 and 1000 words, double spaced. Please include the Application form, Essay and Copy of transcript and submitted by February 14, 2020, online at silverpen-slc.com.
SC Law Enforcement Officers Association Scholarship
The SCLEOF will award one $3,000 scholarship and two $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors in the coming year. One of the $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to the child of an SCLEOA member.
To be considered for a scholarship, a completed application (including transcript and essay) must be received by the SCLEOF or postmarked no later than Friday, February 21, 2020 at the end of the business day. The applications and guidelines can be found below.
The SCLEOA and SCLEOF are proud to support education in The Palmetto State and look forward to the scholarship consideration process.

Touchstone Energy Scholarships- Sponsored by Mid Carolina Electric Cooperative
Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative is offering Touchstone Energy scholarships to high school seniors within its service area. The scholarship is open to any senior attending Lexington Districts 1, 2, 3 and 5; Saluda County Schools; and private schools within those districts. The scholarship is also made available to any in-state student whose primary residence receives electricity from Mid-Carolina Electric.
Seven $3,000 scholarships are given by Mid-Carolina Electric to students in local school districts who are exceptional examples of "The Spirit of Cooperation", a deeply-ingrained value and driving force within the Touchstone Energy brand. Special consideration is given to need, extracurricular activities, community involvement, recommendations and the students’ personal achievements. Since 1990, over 100 scholarships have been awarded to students who fit these criteria, exhibit a positive attitude, and possess a good reputation within their respective communities.

Woodrow and Edith Worthy Ministerial Scholarship - $1,000
Due Date: March 15, 2020
Scholarship Criteria:
• Senior graduating from any Lexington School District One high school with a 3.0 GPA.
• Student must have been involved with church and/or Christian organizations during high school.
• Student must be pursuing a major degree in music ministry or religious studies and/or plan to be very involved with religious life/church while in college (note that preference will be given to students pursuing major).
• Student must have plans to attend a 2-year or 4-year college or university.

Archibald Rutledge Scholarship
The South Carolina Department of Education is announcing the Archibald Rutledge Scholarship Program. This annual program offers public school twelfth-grade students the opportunity to compete for a scholarship worth approximately $2,000 in creative writing, dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. The purpose of the competition is to encourage and recognize academic and artistic excellence. Applicants may participate in one of the following discipline areas: creative writing, dance, music, theatre, or visual arts. NHA Scholarship Fund

Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grants (TEACH) will be available at some colleges and universities beginning this academic year.
