Hello everyone! We still have spots available for the after school STEAM Academy that is held at Brighton High School. Spots are first come, first serve and are for 8th Graders only. For more information and to sign up please click here. Any questions can be sent to me at borgp@brightonk12.com.

Thank you to the volunteers who help keep the traffic flowing in the morning. We will also continue with support for next week and make things easier to see where the drop-off zone is.

A few reminders:

-Pull all the way forward.

-Have your child ready to exit the car as soon as you have stopped safely.

-If you stop after the first orange barricade, your child should exit the car.

-If people are trying to cross from the parking lot, do not stop the line of cars. They will be able to cross when the whole line has stopped.

The Scranton Bass and Fishing Club will be meeting on Thursday February 2nd. We will meet from 2:50 until 4 in the library. Topics this meeting are on finesse bass fishing, ice fishing, fund raising and summer activities! Parents are welcome to join as well!

As a district we are increasing our efforts to support the Mental Health and Wellness of our students, families and the community by focusing on Relationships, Student Wellness, and Increasing a Mindset for Learning and Growth. Each week we will share a Tip/Resource.

The county launched a program to offer free parent coaching through the Cook Foundation. As we all navigate the daunting but amazing role of being a parent, this is a resource that we could lean on for support and/or advice. Our daily Advisory time is a fifteen-minute touchpoint scheduled after the second hour. The SMS staff will provide activities for our students that focus on fostering connections, student wellness, and growing our positive building and district culture.

Advisory is set in advance on a month-to-month basis with the activities sent out by Mr. Renner and Mr. Borg. In addition, Advisory is where we will do our daily announcements and building/district-wide community service projects, as well as structured activities such as grade checks and goal setting.

Honor Roll Requirements

To be on the Honor Roll, students must have a term grade point average of 3.45 or above and no

3’s in citizenship on their report cards. Students with any grade lower than a C- are excluded.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is now accepting applications for the Youth Preparedness Council, a national effort to bring together youth leaders interested in supporting disaster preparedness and making a difference in their communities by completing disaster preparedness projects nationally and locally. Students in grades eight through 11 are eligible to apply.

Council members are selected based on their dedication to public service, their efforts in making a difference in their communities and their potential to expand their impact as national leaders for emergency preparedness.

During their one-year term, council members will collaborate virtually with each other to develop projects that promote preparedness on a local and national scale. Members will also attend the council summit in July and engage with top leaders within FEMA, the federal government, and national non-profit organizations.

Students interested in applying to the council must submit a completed application form and provide two letters of recommendation. All applications and supporting materials must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. PT, March 6, 2023. New council members will be announced in June.

Parent meeting is at Brighton High School Pool on 2/6/23 at 6:30pm. First day of practice is 2/7/23 at 5:00pm. Coach is Samantha Pinter pinters@brightonk12.com. All required documents must be signed by parent and student in FinalForms and a sports physical signed and dated on or after 4/15/22 must be uploaded and approved prior to tryouts or first day of practice.

All student athletes must register in FinalForms and upload a completed physical and consent form from your mobile device or computer. The uploaded physical and consent form must be signed and dated by the examining physician on or after 4/15/22. The physical will show as "expired" until it is approved by the BAS Athletic Department. Physicals uploaded at the last minute may not be reviewed in time for tryouts. Please review your student's profile in FinalForms to ensure all documents are signed by the parent/guardian and the student and that the physical has been approved prior to attending tryouts.
