Fund for Teachers Travel Grants
Ecuador, Alaska, France, Peru...These are only a few of the places Oklahoma teachers have visited as recipients of a Fund for Teachers fellowship. Fund for Teachers is the national donor-supported organization that awards fellowships of up to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for teams for self-designed professional growth to teachers who recognize the value of inquiry, the power of knowledge and their ability to make a difference.
Teachers from all public, private, parochial and charter schools within the state of Oklahoma who fulfill certain criteria are able to apply. Applicants must have three years teaching experience, be a full-time employee and spend at least 50 percent of their time in a classroom setting. In addition, applicants must have the intention of returning to their school and/or district following their summer professional development. Applicants will be selected based on each proposal’s merit— the potential for teacher growth, as well as student, classroom and school impact.

Fund for Teachers enriches the professional growth of teachers as they identify and pursue opportunities around the globe that will have the greatest impact on their practice, the academic lives of their students and on their school communities. Since its inception in 1988 by Apache Corporation Chairman Raymond Plank, Fund for Teachers has awarded more than $18 million in fellowships to 5,000 of America’s top educators. This summer alone, 348 teachers from across the country embarked on odysseys around the world, including 60 from across Oklahoma, supported by FFT’s Oklahoma community partners, Oklahoma Foundation for Education and Tulsa Community Foundation.
In 2006, Oklahoma became the first state in the nation to offer Fund for Teachers grants to educators statewide through the combined efforts of the national Fund for Teachers, the Tulsa Community Foundation and the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.
