Principal's Message
It's been refreshing to have a couple of relatively normal and predictable weeks of weather (rain, rain, and more rain); it certainly helps us to feel like we can rely on our routines and focus on growing and learning together. February and the beginning of March might seem like a bit of a lull, but there is so much exciting learning happening and preparations for the spring.
Connect To Kindergarten
Please join us for Connect to Kindergarten at Chapman @the Ramona next week on February 14th at 9:00 a.m. If you have a child starting kindergarten in the fall of 2017, come to our Connect to Kindergarten event to learn about our program. Please pass this information along to any of your friends and neighbors living in the Chapman attendance area.
Bond Information & Survey
PPS Staff are currently assessing our schools’ health and safety needs to inform a draft 2017 bond package that will include critical health and safety improvements and plans for additional modernized high schools. This upcoming bond is part of a long-range plan to modernize and improve all of our schools over the next 20 years, and will address issues like seismic safety and water quality. Our facilities’ needs are extensive and community feedback on this bond package will shape the priorities of the next round of investments. The 2017 bond will require us to unite and invest in the schools our students and community deserve. Help us keep building our future together. New School Choice Online System
The window to transfer to a focus option school for K-8 students opened on February 8 and will be open for lottery applications until March 24, 2017. If you are interested in your child transferring to a focus option school like DaVinci Middle School, Winterhaven, Creative Science, Access and others focus option schools you will need to both attend an open house at the focus option school and fill out the new online application. Below are instructions on how to access the new online School Choice system. Metropolitan Learning Center will continue to use their own application process and will not be using this online system this year.
NEW SCHOOL CHOICE APPLICATION
PPS will launch a new transfer application system February 1 for high school students and February 8 students in grades K-8. The new school choice system will allow parents to apply online to lottery, petition and dual assignment choices from any computer or mobile device. Families who apply online will receive responses through text or e-mail. The application and communication will happen in English or in a PPS supported language (Chinese, Russian, Somali, Spanish or Vietnamese) if that language is chosen by the parent in their website browser.
Paper applications in all supported languages will be available from the School Choice website (www.pps.net/schoolchoice) and at all PPS schools.
PARENT LOG IN STEPS FOR THE NEW SCHOOL CHOICE SYSTEM
· Open your website Browser (Tip: Works best on Google )
· Go to www.pps.net/schoolchoice
· On Go to the right side of the School Choice webpage and click on the APPLY HERE button.
If you have any questions about focus option schools, the lottery process or about middle school options for your Chapman 5th grader, please speak with School Counselors Ariel Frager or Stephanie Cox.
Best,
Ariel Frager
